2024 GP France: Ice Dance Thoughts?

I am OK if it is in French or German ...
Unfortunately, no. YouTube has a translating capability, but given it's FS terms and that the teams are commenting in short sentences, it's probably of a limited value. I posted a link in national ice dance thread under Rus Ice Dance. It's really good if you can understand what they are saying, because they go through all the ways they can get levels, the features and each segment rules, and what could invalidate each element. I hope maybe Canadian or American National team or IAM could do something similar, sitting their top dancers to explain their routines and what they are accomplishing technically with each part so more people can understand the basic technical make up of each segment. Mark does it too during the replays, but this is more organized and easier to keep up with. The only thing it doesn't have is the junior dance keypoints, since these are senior teams.

Oh well! May be I should starts learning Russian ... anyway, thank you @lariko, these videos sound like a great idea. I will have a look... sometimes the images are enough to understand the gist of what is said.

I was hoping Bratti and Somerville would medal here.

Having seen a video of the Lithuanian team's performance at Nice, I had a sneaking suspicion that they wouldn't make the podium. They won Nice, but were saved by a high RD score. I thought their free looked generally better here in terms of presentation.

I also thought it was probable that the French team could close the gap between them and the Italians but I was quite taken aback by how much G/F underperformed here. Prior to the free I thought they'd narrowly win the title due to their RD lead. That first lift in the free was scary. I don't know how they saved it. I do like the concept of their free dance and I hope they can do it justice next time.

I have to admit that I'm not at all struck by Neset and Markelov's free dance. I rewatched them muted the music and thought it looked awfully similar to last season's free. I know skaters tend to reuse certain tricks but i thought it looked like they'd reused an entire program.

I had to watch the Czechs on mute due to the copyright, but at least the rest of the stream got to stay up! Good componet skaters but they seem drop lots of levels across the board.

I'm happy that Lopareva and Briassaud are pretty much set for the final now.

What I don’t understand about Neset/Markelov’s FD is they’re wearing Game of Thrones costumes but none of the music is from Game of Thrones? And skating to the actual GoT soundtrack would be much more dynamic and not just remind me of Guignard/Fabbri’s FD two seasons ago. It honestly feels like they choreographed first, then tacked some music on, THEN decided on the Halloween costumes because someone at the rink joked about Leah looking like a Targaryen or something.
