Are my boots broken down?

Hi everyone, I got Jackson Freestyles in December 2024 so I’ve only had them for about 6 months, lately I’ve noticed I need to relace every 30mins or my feet get wobbly/loose in the skates and I lose the heel lock. I’ve also noticedg pain in my heel on my left foot and now have a little hard bump there too. I did the “test” (picture) and i can connect both sides of the skate. However, there is NO creasing on the sides, so I’m confused. I’m 26yo female 64kg and I’m currently working on backspin and flip. I skate 3-4 times a week currently. Have a broken my Freestyles or do they have life in them still?

Hi welcome. Yes, you should have never been in a freestyle with your stats (weight). They weren't stiff enough for your from the start. If Jackson is truly for your foot shape etc, then you should be in a Premiere or Synergy Spark boot from them and that's the lowest I would put you in.

Those boots need blades as well so an intermediate traditional style blade (MK PRO or JW CORO ACE) would work fine.

Good luck!

I have the exact same issue - I am 45, 140 lbs, started figure skating again after a 20 year hiatus about a year ago, and was put in Freestyles. They never feel tight enough around the ankles, I yank super hard when I lace up and have to retie. I have also developed Haglund's deformity on my left heel which I noticed about a month ago. My fitter gave me some orthotics to put in when I told him what happened and some beefed up Bunga heel pads have helped, but I don't think these are the right skates for me.

I'm going to post my details looking for recommendations but I appreciate this post for validating my experience!

OP, what did you end up getting?
