Blind ice dance lady

Buried among the comments, it says that they are Evelina Pokrasneteva and Ilya Makarov and that she is not blind. She is merely portraying a blind girl in this perormance. They are clearly talented skaters and performers. It's too late for me to do a lot of research, but you can Google them. They have an Instagram account. their instagram There are lots of Youtube videos and some articles about them.

Googling them, a link to an article about an actual blind figure skater popped up. It's on the US figure skating site, so I think it is legit. https://www.usfigureskating.org/new...-skater-tobi-ellis-turns-blindness-superpower

Years ago I skated at a club for several summers, at their adult dance sessions. There was a man who skated with his wife, and I didn't realize he was blind until someone told me. And she didn't lead him around like a guide dog; he could practise his steps on his own, knowing where other skaters were nearby from the sound of their blades.

Thanks! So many vids and posts on the web are fake.....it would seem everything has to be researched....

I don't think of this one as actually fake, just mislabeled. When I watched the original video, I didn't think that she was blind, especially when she did the twizzles. How could a blind person do so many revolutions and come out facing in the correct direction? Also, it seemed to me like she was in and out of the "blind" character. And she was just too good technically.

I had to keep clicking to get more comments before I found the one that gave the skaters names. Once you have that, you Google them and find other performances by the same skaters. It took a lot of clicking but not really much time; I found it in about 5 minutes.

I don't think anyone set out to make a fake here. Someone saw the video of the performance, incorrectly thought that she was blind rather than portraying a blind person, and re-posted it with an incorrect description. Other people accepted and re-posted it without questioning it. I was lucky that someone actually did a comment on that particular re-post to correct the narrative, and that they gave the skaters' names.

You hit the nail on the head. For me personally this is a pet peeve, with the web the way it is, I spend time researching things I see ref all the history I follow and I see lots of comments about things I am very familiar with that are just plain wrong. I feel while the comments/stories/photos are not fake in the sense that the person who posted/reeposted them was not trying to fool anyone but just ignorant and re-posted garbage (The sky is falling!) All too easy to do today. I feel a responsibility to try and at least say, "I have not personally researched this but..." In this case, I know a tiny bit about skating and how much spacial conceptualization it takes. Blind people can do amazing things. But they cant skate like this girl, especially with a partner. And in this case, this person posted the vid and my good friend Bryan saw it and thought of me and sent it to me. Bryan can do about anything, from working on and flying his two planes, to tearing down a locomotive engine to building a house. But he doesnt know skating.

Arrrgghhhh. Another nit to pick! The ISU says Ms. Youn skated to Nella Fantasia by Ennio Morricone. Fake! Sarah Brightman had to beg Ennio for the music so she could hire someone to write her lyrics in Italian and she created Nella Fantasia. Or in her words...
"My next song was originally an instrumental written by the composer Ennio Morricone for the film The Mission. (Gabriel's Oboe) About three years ago I wrote to Mr. Morricone, asking whether he would give me permission to turn this particular piece into a song. He flatly refused. So every two months I would send yet another begging letter, until I think he became so sick of me that he finally relented. And I am really glad that he did, because I think it works beautifully as a song." :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: Ok, I will leave now. :slink:
