That subject line got your attention, didn't it?

Okay, guys! On Thursday I leave for my big Nats-- The National Dutch Rabbit show! I'm so excited! I look forward to this all year... wish me luck!!!

Cool, have fun. And I thought it was going to be about the wild Bun Buns out and about the neighborhoods. Soooo cute. I love bunnies!!!!!

Is it a competition, like a dog show? Are there different varieties of Dutch rabbits? (Are they really Dutch?)

Yes, it's a big competition, usually around 1,000 Dutch from all over the country. The American Rabbit Breeders Association Convention, which is the only national all-breed show and is held in the autumn, usually has around 20,000 rabbits!

There are six recognized varieties of Dutch: black, blue, chocolate, gray, steel, and tortoise. I raise all six varieties. The Dutch are one of the oldest known domestic breeds, so their origins are a bit sketchy, but it is believed they originated in Holland. They are known to be in England as early as the 1860's. The American Dutch Rabbit Club is also one of the oldest breed specialty clubs, organized in 1929.

If you want to see what they look like, here's a link to the nat'l club site:
