Interview with Alexei Yagudin

We know a million young ladies are in love with Alexei, but we know little of anything about his love life if there is any.

Joe

He's been pretty public about the major girlfriends in his life. There was an American for a number of off-and-on years that he was very open about to the skating world, except in interviews. Then a near-engagement last year to a Russian in a very public relationship, and subsequently a different girlfriend for the past 10-11 months. For awhile he felt a desire to get married and have kids but seems to have recognized that there is no hurry even though there was some outside pressure as Russians tend to get married (see Zhulin, Kulik, Abt, Plushenko, etc., etc.) fairly young. He has what I would call...a restless heart.

"Kathleen: And after three days [back in Russia] decided to make it permanent?

"Alexei: Yes. And I'm not one-hundred percent sure why. When I moved back to Russia, I was shocked by the beauty of Russian women. It sounds a little weird because I grew up there so why did it happen so suddenly. But before that I didn't really look. ...I couldn't enjoy what was around me. I didn't care and I didn't have time. But then I adapted to a new lifestyle, and my life became so wide open. And when I returned, I finally appreciated the beauty of my own country...It was as if my eyes saw the Russia for the first time."

- Talking about men's skating, don't you think that the new rules give a certain advantage to the skaters with non-traditional sexual orientation? As a rule, they are more flexible and expressive and these qualities are more valued when it comes to the components of the program.

Are you kidding me? *Sigh*

I didn't know they found a "gay gene" that made men more flexible and expressive. I must have skip it in my last issue of TIME.:disagree:

He has???!! Could you say when, because I love Daisuke, and can't recall seeing that program....would love to!

I'll have to find it again. I just remember seeing the 4T/3T on a protocol sheet somewhere. I think it was in a Grand Prix event.

I just looked through all of the Grand Prix events and it wasn't there. So I guess it must have been somewhere else. Takahashi DID do a Quad/Double in the SP at a Grand Prix event during the 2004/2005 season, however.
