According to Daphne at ice-dance ,Anjelika Krylova & Oleg Ovsyannikov are retiring from skating, and are turning to coaching and choreography.Bummer,big-time!Oh well, considering her back injury that could have split them 4 years ago,we should console ourselves with the untold hours of beautiful dramatic entertainment they had given us over the years. Here's to the origional Caesar & Cleopatra:Mi Tebya Lubim!(We love you).

I loved K&O. I have missed them ever since they retired from eligible skating. I lost interest in ice dance after their retirement. Unfortunately our networks rarely showed their pro programs which were just as gorgeous.

They're my favorite ice dance pair. Their Malaguena was awesome. She got criticised for being too over the top but I always enjoyed their drama.

There goes one of the best ice dance teams in history and my all time favorite dancers. But then my heart was already broken when their eligible career was cut short at its height when her back injury couldn't stand competitive training anymore.
This is one of the most fabulously talented yet the most underrated team that I know of, as far as recognition from fans as well as competitive records go. Their talent deserved more. Krylova and Ovsiannikov were a match made in heaven. Angelika the Amazing had already skated with two partners (Leliukh and Fedorov, whom she placed 3rd with at the 1993 Worlds) before she teamed up with Oleg in 1995 when they performed the dazzling flamenco FD and placed 5th after having just teamed up in less than 6 months. I loved their 1996 Paso Doble OD, and they came close to G&P and placed 2nd at Worlds that year. The FD to Valse Masquerade from 1997 was one of my favorite FD's of all time; it's a piece of music that I consider relatively difficult to skate to because of its contiunuous line and phrasing. In retrospect I've come to love the Carmen FD from 1998, which at the time I thought was a little bit on the strange side. But as I watch it today I can't help feeling like wathcing real life theatre on ice with the addition of difficult edge work and lifts. When it was performed at GWG, it was simply SENSATIONAL. The La Traviata OD is another all time favorite of mine, and for the first time I realized how naturally elegant and musically sensitive this team is--it's an absolute masterpiece and IMO should have place first at Helsinki. It was so regal and transcended time for me. The African Drum FD really showed how strong they are as skaters with all the difficult changes in holds and footwork in addition to the already excellent upper body movement and expression, as well as their originality and willingness to take risks. They've just about come to the peak of their career with that OD and FD when they realized they had to stop. Dr. Zhivago is my last favorite program of theirs and it's incredibly beautiful despite the lack of competitive difficulty. Angelika was always famous for her extreme expression (which some would call a bit over-the-top), but Oleg has never fallen short next to her, yet complimented her expression so well with his power, sharpness and charisma. One could only imagine the performances they could have given and the amazing programs they could have done had they kept on skating eligible. They have always been known for expression and drama as well as power and elegance, but what I loved the most about them was their natural ability to "dance" and feel the music from deep down.
This team could do anything and be anything and can dance to music from any genre. There's just no other like them.

They were a great team. Too bad they had to leave so early. There are plenty of times they should have beaten G&P.

I agree with you. IMHO Krylova/Ovsyannikov were a stunning dance team, one of the best of all team. She was and is classically beautiful. I'm sure they will make outstanding coaches and choregraphers, and the skaters who have the opportunity to train with them will be blessed, indeed. I wish them the best in all of their future endeavors. Thanks for sharing this with us!

Thanks for the responses and comments.Dr. Zhivago had special meaning for me,as it was my Dad's favorite movie soundtrack, and he passed away 7 years ago.Watching it brought back fond memories for me,Mom & his sister,Auntie Dee.I'm also glad that I was able to coup some compilation tapes of them,as well as one of three programs by her and then-partner Vladimir Fedorov.Their "Life Of An Artist" and "Cha-Cha" showed what she would be capable of with Oleg.As for the complaints of her being 'over the top',if you don't like it,lump it,I think she is beautiful.

Angelica Krylova is the Catherine Zeta-Jones of the figure skating world. A real
"10", anyway you look at it.

Let's also not forget Oleg's loyalty in sticking by Anjelika during a time when her injuries left the two of them with an uncertain future.

On a separate subject,I have 4 programs of Anjelika & Vladimir Fedorov,Cha-Cha,Life Of An Artist,Rock Around The Clock, and Spartacus. Were there any others, and can anyone make copies? Also, what about her previous partner,Vladimir Lelukh?Any tapes of them kicking around?

I always loved watching K&O. I will miss them. Definitely one of my all-time fave dance teams. I'm grateful we got to see them skate live a few times.
