A British friend of mine once asked me, "Why do you Americans call it The World Series when all of the participants are from the same country?"

I responded by merely agreeing, and then asking, "Why do you suppose they call it The Miss Universe Pageant when all of the contestants are from the same galaxy?"

We both agreed never to repeat the conversation in front of Steven Wright, as he would surely steel it for his act. ​
