2008 Grand Prix Final ice dance winners Maria Monko and Ilya Tkachenko have fallen apart
Students of Alexei Gorshkov, winners of the 2008 Junior Grand Prix Final in Ice Dancing, Maria Monko/ Ilya Tkachenko, have decided against continuing to perform together. Senior coach of the Junior team Galina Golubkova informer sport information agency “All Sport” of this.
“We can state officially now that the team of Maria Monko and Ilya Tkachenko no longer exists”, said Galina Golubkova. “It’s hard to trace the decision to one reason. I know Maria has had health problem that led to her loosing form. Their coach set some conditions to be met by a certain time; those either were not fulfilled, or did not satisfy the athletes themselves. As a result, according to my sources, Maria has quit the sport, and Ilya continues to skate in Gorshkov’s group. I hope, though, that it’s too early to forget this team altogether. Who knows what the future holds? Perhaps, they will get back together as did another Junior pair, Natalya Mikhailova/ Arkady Sergeev, or perhaps they will find success with other partners.”
