Hi,

Hoping for some advice on new boots/blades!

Background:
Adult female, age 30, 170cm, 80kg.
I'm mostly a synchro skater so I'm pretty proficient at edges and turns but still working on flip/lutz and basic position spins as I've only recently got back into figure. I do hope to get to single axel some day but probably not doubles.
Currently in Jackson debut and coronation ace which are 4.5yrs old (though not used much in 1st year due to lockdown).

My coronation aces are totally dead, the rocker has been sharpened off. I'd get the same again though as its been a good blade. A friend has some parabolic ones in my size she hasnt ever used so could consider those though never skated in parabolic before.

My debuts have held out well at the ankle they're only just starting to crease. The tongue is totally destroyed, peeling away at the edges and the padding has gone and has holes it in.
Given my height/weight I'm considering a move to premieres. My ankle does have a tenancy to fall in/pronate so thinking perhaps the stiffer boot could help.

Any experience/advice? Will obviously discuss with my coach first too and visit a fitter to order.

Oh yeah the other issue I've had with the debut is that last year I had issues with what I assume was lace bite and have been stuffing make up sponges down the tongue for extra padding ever since...I'm unclear if that's just because the padding is gone or if it could be a boot style thing

<Emphasis added>> Why is it unclear? According to your first post, you've been skating on the boots for ~4.5 yrs. Even accounting for ~1 yr non-use during COVID, you had no issues with lace bite for ~2~2.5 yr. Now you've had issues with lace bite for ~1 yr, but the tongue has deteriorated to the point that it's "totally destroyed" in your own words. If lace bite were due to "boot style thing", it would have cropped up early on. With a tongue padding that's deteriorated (even before it's totally destroyed), it's not at all surprising that you're having lace bite.

Well, for starters I wasn't sure if it actually was lace bite, that was a Dr google self diagnosis, and I had wondered if it could have been the way I was lacing them, some team mates had mused maybe it was because I had started jumping more immediately prior to the pain starting...

So I didn't think it was all that straight forward, no.

Would be useful to know if anyone has any input on the parabolic or on adult skater weight vs boot style for Jackson.

Hi and welcome. What is your foot type?—look this up. Once I know this I can give you detailed info on the boot. As far as the blade, no to parabolic, you don’t need them and they won’t do you any good at this point in your skating journey.

If you plan on jumping, then moving to Premier is fine. If Jacksons have been working for you, then staying with Jacksons is probably best, but you should discuss any problems you've been having with your fitter.

Parabolic is mostly just a marketing gimmick that will not affect your skating that much, but it will make sharpening much harder and require more skill to do well, so the biggest practical downside to getting a parabolic blade is getting them sharpened well. Alas, it's probably not really worth it, but it's not like you couldn't skate on them.

Thank you! When you mean foot type, do you mean the chart that has roman foot etc on it?
In terms of the parabolic, would you say they were detrimental or just not required? I wouldn't go out my way to buy them but as a friend already had them unused I'd consider it. Lots of girls at my rink have them and a coach does the sharpening for them so the sharpening isn't a problem- I just wouldn't want to get them if its likely to hamper my edges!

Yes I do plan to keep jumping up to hopefully single axel. I tried my friend's premieres the other day and I liked how the tongue sits more flush with my ankle from how the hooks are positioned compared to debut and they did feel nice and supportive, though not fitted to my foot obviously!

Yes thats the chart. And yes at your level they’re unneeded to the point of detrimental.
