Shpilband Follows Dad to the Ice

Katia Shpilband is following in the footsteps of her father, world-renowned ice dance coach Igor Shpilband, to find success on the ice. The 13-year-old finished fourth at U. S. Junior Nationals in juvenile girls last season and has already won two big events in intermediate ladies this season at the Broadmoor Open and Skate Detroit, where she won over more than 90 other girls.

I have had the pleasure of seeing Katia Shpilband perform in several shows and competitions in the Detroit area. What a charmer! She seemed to be especial friends with Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto.

Well her dad is doing somthing right. He had the # 3 and 4 dance teams in the world, and the next #1 team for the US, the Shibunatis. Former coach of Belbin and Agosto. I can't wait to see how Katia progresses, it is so nice to see a second generation take to the ice.
