Fame is fleeting. Here is a article from this morning's Detroit Free Press, announcing the winner of the Sullivan Award for best U.S. amateur athlete.

"Florida quarterback Tim Tebow...was named winner of the Sullivan Award Tuesday night in New York...

"Past winners include Bobby Jones, Wilma Rudolph, Nancy Kwan and Peyton Manning."

LOL, Nancy Kwan... Anyway, I remember that beautiful actress from "The World of Suzie Wong", a very beautiful girl.

That just reminds me of the MSNBC headline after the 1998 Olympic ladies free--

"American beats Kwan."

Ah Nancy Kwan, that's the one that was robbed of her gold at the Olympics. Poor thing!

True story.

I attended the Champions on Ice show in Hartford, CT in April of 2006. Michelle was there, and I got a few pictures. I emailed my mother, who was in Aruba at the time, one of my pics of Michelle.

She replied "Oh yeah, that's Nancy Quan".

wow, that would have been funny to see.............
Actually, it wasn't funny at all. Many people interpreted it as an insult to Asian-Americans. As in, Michelle Kwan doesn't really count as being "American" in the same way that Polish-American Tara Lipinski does.

To make matters worse, the next time around, the subheadline of the Seattle Times article about Sarah Hughes' victory at the 2002 Olympics was, "American Outshines Kwan."

I don´t think it was any insult, but in a haste the word "another" had apparently been dropped by mistake in both cases, LOL. I can understand that it was big news that the US media favourite Kwan had been beaten, especially by another American skater.

I see your point............................

The World

Maybe it's because Kwan achievements surmount belonging to any single country - she belongs to the world!

Indeed she was! She was in "Flower Drum Song", too! "A hundred million miracles are happening everyday..."
