Smart and Baker engaged

They look so happy together! Good for them! (Aren't they both British? how compatible!)

Yes, they are both British. But Olivia is from Yorkshire while Jean-Luc is from Lancashire. :drama:

Two counties, both alike in dignity,
In fair England, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foes
A pair of star-cross'd lovers...

OK, so it's not quite Montague and Capulet level, but there has always been a major rivalry between Yorkshire and Lancashire. Especially when it comes to sport.

The thing I find so lovely is that history is repeating. Jean-Luc's parents were both skaters from different partnerships (because Sharon was an Ice Dancer while Steve was a Pairs skater).

And what a ring! 💍

I wish them both all the best for their future.

Jean-Luc is British-American. His parents are British immigrants to America. Jean-Luc was born and raised in the U.S.

No. Jean-Luc was born in Burnley, Lancashire, England. It was a few years after he came along that the family emigrated to America.

His Mum, Sharon Jones, is also from Lancashire (specifically Manchester). But I don't actually know where exactly in the UK his Dad, Steve Baker, is from (I've been trying to find out for years, because these sort of things interest me).

Incidentally, Olivia was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.

Ah yes, I'm wrong that Jean-Luc was born in the U.S. He was born in Burnley, England. He and his parents transplanted to Washington state, near Seattle, when Jean-Luc was four. He is, of course a U.S. citizen and being born in Britain, he surely holds dual citizenship.
