I just found out that my house, built between 1950 and 1990, has a Federal Pacific electric circuit breaker panel. The company went out of business in 1988 cause they committed fraud certifying the circuit breakers, which fail at a rate between 15 percent and 60 percent. Only you wont know they failed till your house burns down. Millions of homes still have these panels. There are two things you or your friends can do. Replace the breakers with after market new replacements that are UL certified (not cheep) or have the panel replaced for $1500 to $3000. Spread the word. You can google Federal Pacific electric panel till the cows come home and hear the horror stories. Here is a mild explaination sans class action law suits, and federal investigations that only ended in 2005.
