Shimada was so good! There were lots of good performances and movement in this field.

Lots of wiggle room for the dance teams after the Italians. Here's hoping for some longevity with the younger teams!

I did not see Ariano Kent and Laliberte-Laurent coming! Was expecting a little more from some of the other teams, but the Canadians were a pleasant surprise. I really liked their FD!

There was definitely some competition in the men's event! Sanchez almost medaled and I was rooting for Li as well. The same top three also medaled last year :)

What are your thoughts?

Worlds.... I usually am not at all able to watch much skating in Europe due to the time difference and well life in my own time zone.. but somehow, I managed to see a lot of it and as I enjoy watching juniors, I was thankful...

Women : I watched pretty much the entire SP and wow... it is crazy to think that some skaters with 3-3 and relatively clean skates (no falls, no pops) didn't make the free skate. Everyone was delivering their tech. The field has deepened tremendously.
Mao Shimada is just absolutely wonderful. I also enjoyed Inga's SP. Jia came back in the LP, but I thought both Koreans, and I say this a huge fan of Korean skaters, over-marked in the SP. Canadian content : Kara was skating early and well, was close to Q but didn't. Lulu managed to qualify despite a fall.... however, I expected her to have a very rough LP as she was out of competition for a long time. She suffered a concussion and has just been back for a couple weeks to full training. I am mentioning it because our young women are getting stronger and stronger in Canada and the bad event means less spots... It will be hard for our skaters to get opportunities next year.

Men : without a doubt, my favourite junior skaters are Minkyu and Jacob. I really wanted Jacob on the podium but sigh... Rio is an exciting prospect for Japan. Anthony and David are better than what they've shown, and again, that resulted in a loss in spots for next year... The event was really a battle between those with 3a only who are trying to go clean and have a good program and those who have quads and are going for broke at times :) (except for Rio who is just so good)

Ice Dance : I wasn't able to watch most of it so all I will say is congrats to the winners. Many of the top teams will be moving to seniors next year so a brand new crew will show up. My favourite American team were the youngest of the three and I will be looking forward to seeing them in the future.

Pairs : A lot has been said already about the teams who do compete as seniors, even win major medals, and showed up here. I will repeat myself but I am in agreement with a rule that would allow a certain number of senior events and once that number is reached, skaters can no longer return to juniors. This would allow teams to transition from juniors to seniors smoothly and avoid the extreme gap we saw in the levels.
I was expecting Ava and Yoni to medal here but they had a tough outing. They were out with injury for the most part of the season, so I am just glad they are back. Jazzy and Kiki are so nice to watch. They have super strong elements for relative newbies to the discipline so I just hope that they will manage to manage jumps and throws in the near future. They said they are not sure if they will move up or not, I hope they do not move up to seniors. Not without secure jumps. I kept my fave for the end. I have been a fan of MARLY from day one when I saw them compete at CQE. They were such rising superstars and a brand new team... and won their first ever international event a JGP. I was amazed with their poise considering he is super goofy :) and then, last year, after a small medal in the SP (3rd) they didn't skate that well in the LP and didn't medal.... this year, they were stable and pretty much didn't miss a thing (touch down on the throw loop). They have said at Nationals that they are adding difficulty gradually after coming back from injury. For instance, at Nationals, they only did a double twist and a double loop throw... those were already triples just a few weeks later. In any case, this medal was a balm for Canadian fans as our skaters didn't always perform to their talent. I know how good some of them can be.. I have been following them, and I hope they find their ways to higher standards in the next seasons.

I can see my prediction coming true 100%. Junior women are now the women's field of interst and intrigue. When quads start in group 1, you know that the field is healthy and have great completion. My favs were Von Felten, Kalugina, Gurgenidze and Wada. None ended on the podium, but I expect even better next season. It's also cool when you can't preemptively fast forward any flag in juniors. Imo, it's time to reopen conversation about alowing 3A to junior women in the short.

Men weren’t as exciting, with not a lot of clean deliveries or technical interest. I also can't say anyone showed a program which really grabbed me as a story/fresh music choice, but Gartung's quads were a nice change of pace as well as (unappreciated, lol) cringe choreo courtesy of his skating buddy. But, also, the expanding geography in this field is also nice.

With dance, I go hot and cold. Like, on one hand, I love seeing accomplished teams in juniros, on another, I have a hard time not thinking about it as the worst of seniors and a holding pen for those who wait for a spot to 'open up'. In this respect, Aboian/Veselukhin shouldering between 20 yo's was a nice change of pace. However, I didn't feel the field was as open as others to different flags and after Mrazkova/Mrazek i am yet to see a junior team that was similar striking in juniors.

I wasn't watching junior pairs, because the new age limits are a travesty even worse than in ice dance. I don't blame the athletes for taking advantage of junior till you grow gray, but this is not junior pairs. It's I don't know what it is. Just not junior pairs.

I don't have many thoughts about this event. Anthony can do a proper spiral, this is for sure. What the heck happened to Arlet? Does he not want his cactus crown?

I thought a lot of criticism in the build up to the event about M/B taking part was uncalled for. The silver medalists in pairs were an older team yet no-one was complaining, the bronze medalist in males skated in senior competitions all year, the bronze in females skated in senior GPs this season, look at ice dance they are all in their 20's. It seemed like people were targetting this one particular pair for some reason

To me, M/B taking part should be less offensive than a senior skater from a big fed taking part in a junior comp because a big fed has a surplus of skaters too choose from, whereas M/B are the only competitive senior/junior pairs team from Georgia. So it makes sense for the Georgian fed to send M/B if eligible.

Congratulations to M/B they are a cut above and proved to be the best junior team in the world once again.

Junior women was great in the end. New stars were born like Arina Kalugina who in her first real competition scored the second highest for TES. With only 190 required to get a World silver, this is one skater to watch out for in the future. I can't remember seeing a quad combo at junior level must be years. Kalugina landed it with margin to spare. I got so excited watching it, but the commentator seemed really non-plussed about it all and was some what negative about it when she was coming off the ice  Strange to me, because here is this skater who he didn't know anything about, no-one really heard of her and just attempts two quads and a triple axel. The commentator should have been screaming with excitement, on his feet applauding such an effort. Maybe it was just my perception, but the commentator seemed kind of annoyed about it all if anything.

I thought Shimada got a little lucky with some calls like with the 3Lz in the SP which was clearly on the q, but the tech panel some how missed it, the 4T was a clear q as well but they missed it, some other jumps looked borderline q but didn't affect GOE. So it did inflate the score some what, but would have been a 30 point victory not 40. That PCS in the FS was so high, higher than Valieva at 2020 World's. Not sure I agree with that . And that PCS gap to second was huge. Not that it changed anything.

I know there is a lot of comment about it being unfair that Shimada is in juniors, but it is for her own protection.

ISU Athletes Commission member and three-time Olympic figure skating medallist Eric Radford of Canada asked the Congress: "Is a medal worth risking the health of a child or a young athlete?"

Judging was a bit of a sore point with me, they really went hard after Wada but then one skater in particular (skates at senior level for a big fed and coached by someone whose skaters all have trouble with landings) it seemed most landings were problematic yet they mark every jump as clean. It was so bizarre after they had really gone out of their way to scrutinise other skaters. This really affected the final results as well. I felt sorry for Wada.

It was disappointing for Inga after the skate of her life in the SP, and then just completely melt down in the free skate. Silver was there for the taking. She might not get a better opportunity again. Still, the second place in the SP was a big step forward in her career.

And just a general comment to end, but what is with Hamada's shrieking, jumping around and carrying on? It is so over the top, I wonder if she does it to help the scoring. If the judges see this woman in the corner of their eye jumping up and down for a combo are they more reticent to review it or maybe add a point or two more to GOE?

Extremely impressive jumping from junior women, but I found the vast majority of programs undercooked and unwatchable, even at a junior level. Nice podium, though.

I particularly enjoyed Nakata, Hagara, Sanchez, and Levandi in the men's event.

Ridiculous to see the Georgians in this event and I boycotted watched that discipline.
