Vayana HRISTOVA (Bulgarian: Ваяна ХРИСТОВА) and Axel AHMED are Pairs skater who represent France.

Vayana Hristova was born on 3rd December 2010 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Axel Ahmed was born on 17th July 2004 in Charleville-Mézières, Champagne-Ardenne, France.

They are the 2025 Tournoi De France Stage 5 (Romorantin-Lanthenay) Junior Pairs Champions; and the 2025 Tournoi De France Stage 3 (Neuilly Sur Marne) Junior Pairs Champions.


Vayana and Axel started their partnership in 2025. Prior to that, both of them competed as Singles skaters. There is already a thread about Vayana’s Singles career. So, rather than repeat everything here, the additional OP in this thread will focus on Axel.

Consequently, rather than having just one “Original Post”, this Fan Fest has two!

I hope you have had an enjoyable day, and that the coming year is a good one for you, both on and off the ice..

And to mark the day, I am posting the Fan Fest thread I made last month for his new partnership with Vayana Hristova.

Apologies that this is happening so late in the day. I had to completely re-write the post for Axel's SIngles Skating after finding out about the CSNPA website a few days go.

Looking forward to seeing Vayana and Axel in action together.

But in the meantime, I hope Axel had a great birthday.

Just two days after competing at Nationals, Vayana and Axel will finally be making their international debut today at Skate Berlin in Germany.

The Junior Pairs SP is due to start at 10:35:00 CET (09:35:00 GMT / 11:35:00 EET). So 4 hours from now.

Vayana and Axel will be the 3rd partnership to start. So, third and final partnership to go in Group 1.

The Group 1 Warm-Up is due to start at 10:35:00 CET (09:35:00 GMT / 11:35:00 EET). So 4 hours from now.

Vayana and Axel are due to start at 10:53:10 CET (09:53:10 GMT / 11:53:10 EET). So 4h 18m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws.

Skate Berlin Junior Pairs SP: Results; Protocols

Vayana and Axel finished 7th out of 7 in the SP, with a score of 36.73.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch LIVE, as I was watching the final day of Formula 1 pre-season testing, and then catching up on the overnight action from the first day of the opening round of the World Superbikes.

However, I have now watched them on the archived livestream, so here is the sort of comment I would have written about the Warm-Up if I had been watching LIVE:

Although I haven't watched them yet, it's a good job I found videos of their programmes, so that I know in advance what costumes to look out for.

Actually, this is a good camera shot for the Warm-Up. It is easy to spot who is who.

They looked good just skating around the rink at the start in their black jackets. They had more speed than the other two partnerships.

After they went out of shot, we saw Vayana come back into shot, take off her jacket to reveal a gold dress, and then go back out of shot again. Axel must have taken his jacket off out of shot, because when they came back into shot he was wearing a grey shirt and black trousers.

We saw them lining up a throw, but it was done out of shot.

Oooh, nearly had a collision when they were moving at speed and another partnership were just casually doddling along. The girl did not look impressed!

Then we saw them lining up a Twist, which was done out of shot.

Yay! We finally saw them do an element in shot! A lift! And it looked good! But, he was still holding her up in the air when they went out of shot, so we didn't see what the set down was like.

Then we saw them do a half-hearted Death Spiral just before the one minute warning. But then after the warning, they came back into shot and did a better one. And then another, which was the best one yet, and went out of shot.

Vayana came back into shot, but the announcer came on to say that the Warm-Up was over, so she did a u-turn, and went out of shot again.

Looking forward to seeing their programme!

And here is the sort of comment I would have written about the programme if I had been watching LIVE:

Interesting start position. Vayana sitting on the ice, and Axel standing up looking like he is screaming, with them facing away from each other.

Middle Eastern music!!! I always liked Vayana anyway, but I really like this partnership already!

Opening Twist not bad.

Unfortuantely camera was zoomed in too far so we didn't see Axel's Double Loop properly. But Vayana's was good.

Throw Double Flip wasn't very big.

I was worried about them being too close to the boards for the Reverse Lasso Lift, but they were alright.

Vayana very hesitant going into Backwards Inside Death Spiral.

Completely lost their synchonicity a few times during the Step Sequence. Well, they are both straight out of Singles, so it will take a while.

And the same again during the Combination Spin at the end. I think it was just the camera angle, but I was worried that Axel's blade was getting too close to Vayana's face.

You know, I was worried that the age difference was going to be offputting. But, it wasn't noticeable at all.

Vayana didn't look very happy with how it went. Axel seemed more positive.

They go into third position.

Again, Vayana not happy, but Axel was.

Well, given how new they are to this, I thought they were very good!

Looking at the Protocols, they are not pretty. There was only one element that had any positive numbers next to it. So, I will focus on it!

The second element, the Double Loop, had the only positive GOE of the programme, at +0.17. It already had the lowest Base Value of the programme, which meant it remained as the lowest scoring element of the programme. It got 0 from Judge 3; +1 from three Judges; and +2 from Judge 5.

The fifth element, the Backwards Inside Death Spiral, was called as an invalid element.

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from -0.90 for the third element, the Throw Double Flip, to -0.12 for the final element, the Change Foot Combination Spin. The Judges marks for the elements with negative GOE ranged from -3 to 0.

Vayana and Axel are currently 3.48 points behind 6th position, Inés MOUDDEN / Alejandro Lázaro GARCÍA (ESP), and 3.81 points behind 5th position, Frida HERRMANN / Hugo Willi HERRMANN (DEU).

Finishing in last position in the SP is not really the start to their international career that they would have wanted. But, to be fair, their SP does not normally score very high. Even their highest SP score so far would have still put them in last position. It is their Free Skate programme that they normally do a lot better in. So, let's hope they have a good Free Skate in Berlin.

To be honest, even if they have a good Free Skate, they are unlikely to move up without mistakes from one of the two partnerships directly ahead of them. However, your position is not what matters on your international debut. What matters is getting the experience, and finding out what the international Judges and Technical Panel expect from you.

Vayana and Axel finished 6th out of 7 in the FS, with a score of 69.23. This meant that they remained in 7th position overall, with a score of 105.96.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch LIVE, because I mixed up the start time. And you can't re-wind Sport Deutschland livestreams.

However, I have now watched them on the archived livestream, so here is the sort of comment I would have written about the Warm-Up if I had been watching LIVE:

Well, of the three partnerships, one partnership came out in their costumes, whikle the other two partnerships were waring black jackets. But, after their initial lap of the rink, both partnerships got rid of their jackets.

Not that it matters. It is easy to spot Vayana and Axel because of the way Axel's long blonde hair is tied up.

Vayana is wearing a gorgeous red dress. Axel is wearing a red T-shirt, black waistcoat, and black trousers.

Not long into the Warm-Up, we saw them lining up a Twist. Unfortunately, it was done out of camera shot. But then they came into shot and did another! But, Vayana didn't have enough rotations in the air. They then circled around and did another, and it was much better.

After a while, we saw them lining up another throw, but it was done out of shot. When they came back into shot, the same thing happened again, although it looked to be a different throw.

It took a long time for them to come back into shot, so I assume they were talking to their coach. When they did, it was obvious they were lining up a Death Spiral, and I was worried they were going to do it out of shot. But, they did it just in shot. And it was beautiful!

That was novel. Just befoe the one minute warning, they did a lift right across the camera shot. Unfortunately, we didn't see Vayana getting set down at the end of it.

They didn't do anything more, which is understandable as they are about to do their programme.

Very intricate start to the programme.

The opening Double Twist was OK, but the set down wasn't the best.

Hang on, is this "Lady Marmalade"?! It is!

Axel's Double Loop was good, but he was blocking our view of Vayana's.

It looked like he was struggling to pick her up in the Throw Double Flip. But the throw itself turned out fine.

Reverse Lasso Lift was great. Although, the camera angle made it look like Vayana was going to hit a microphone that was hanging down from the ceiling. (She was no-where near it).

Now we change to a cover of Elton John's "Your Song".

Sequence of jumps were alright.

Ach, Vayana didn't land the Throw Double Loop.

Group 3 Lift was good.

What is this monstrosity of a version of Offenbach's "Orpheus In The Underworld"?!

Forward Inside Death Spiral Good.

Combination Spin at the end more than made up for the music we were listening to!

They looked reasonably happy when they finished. But, they were still getting their breath back, so it is hard to tell.

And that was still the case when they were sitting waiting for their results. Their coach said something to them that he clearly didn't want us to hear, because he covered his mouth with his hand.

Axel is definitely the happiest of the three of them. Vayana looks concerned. And the coach looks positively miserable!

When the scores came up, Axel burst out laughing. Vayana was very disappointed and slumped back on the bench.

Well, given how new they are to this Pairs malarky, I thought they did well. So:

The second element, the Double Loop, had the joint biggest GOE boost of the programme, at +0.06. This meant that it went from having the lowest Base Value of the programme, to being the second lowest scoring element of the programme. The Judges gave it three 0's; and two +1's.

The fifth element, the Double Flip-Single Axel-Double Toe done in sequence, had the joint biggest GOE boost of the programme, at +0.06. This meant that it went from having the fourth highest Base Value of the programme, to being the second highest scoring element of the programme. The Judges gave it three 0's; and two +1's. In exactly the same order as they did for the Double Loop.

The sixth element, the Throw Double Loop that Vayana fell on, had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.40. And because it had the joint second lowest Base Value of the programme, this meant that it became the lowest scoring element of the programme. Unsurprisingly, it got -5 from all five Judges.

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from -0.93 for the fourth element, the Reverse Lasso Lift, to -0.17 for the eighth element, the Choreographic Step Sequence. The aforementioned Reverse Lasso Lift had by far the highest Base value of the programme, and so remained as teh highest scoring element of the programme. Apart from a -3 from Judge 3 for the Opening element, the Double Twist, and a +1 from Judge 3 for the aforementioned Choreographic Step Sequence, all the Judges marks for these seven elements ranged from -2 to 0.

Vayana and Axel finished the Free Skate 6.91 points behind 5th position, Frida HERRMANN / Hugo Willi HERRMANN (DEU), and 1.54 points ahead of 7th position, Inés MOUDDEN / Alejandro Lázaro GARCÍA (ESP).

Overall, Vayana and Axel finished 1.94 points behind 6th position, Moudden / García, and 10.72 points ahead of 6th position, the Herrmanns.

Although it was not the skate they wanted, nevertheless this was by far their highest Free Skate score yet. And, although by a smaller margin, also their highest overall score yet.



They definitely need a lot of polishing. Nevertheless, I can see a lot of potential. Given that they are both straight out of Singles, they look very promising.

Unlike most partnerships that include a girl of Vayana's age, this one has the bonus of not having to worry about the effects of puberty. Because, as was the case with her older sister Chiara, Vayana has matured at a very young age. So, they can work with the long term in mind, as they know that mother nature isn't going to throw in any surprises in the next few years.

All in all, I am feeling very positive about this partnership. And I look forward to seeing them again.

I was just on Ice Partner Search, and I am afraid that Vayana is back on there.

So it looks like she and Axel have split after just one season.

Pity. Granted, they needed a lot of polishing. (Hardly surprising since they were both brand new to Pairs skating). But they looked promising.

Although he hasn't formally announced anything, Axel has been posting photos of himself with Abby Huo, and in one of them referred to "My new partner and I".

So it looks like Abby Huo / Axel Ahmed (FRA) are a new partnership.

I wish all three of them all the best for the future.
