What Piseev would ask of Obama

In the light of Obama visiting Moscow, yhe paper asked some government officials what they'd demand of the US president.
I really got a kick out of Piseev's response:
Return to their homeland our coaches and athletes currently working in the US; that's over 200 people!

Well, that is a lot of skating professionals, but it's not like they're there because of evil american forces that demand that they stay...:sheesh:

And the two russians there that give the impression of not being too happy about staying in the US were shipped there by the Russian Fed (their current world champs...)

I think he should offer better conditions for these professionals to come back to Russia before making such remarks...

There are other issues as well. For some reason, Vasiliev decided to prepare for the Olympic season in Chicago. Why? It’s unclear. Before, coaches could make money in America, but today Russia offers good working conditions, too.

On the other hand it's pretty much common knowledge that Domnina / Shabalin were shipped of to the US, despite the fact that they had a good season 07/08 under their old coach. And Piseev had no problem lobbying for Russian citizenship for a "foreigner".

I mean, you can't have both. Either you accept that it's an international sport and nationality is at times just a formality - or you build a pretty grey wall and force all Russian Nationals to hide behind it with you.

He makes it sound as if the USA had Kidknapped the coaches! As far as my understanding goes that isn't the case. Nearly all find that there are better working conditions in the USA than in Russia, and (I suppose) some of them actually like living in the USA!

I fully agree with Medusa. Piseev really needs to make his mind up!

Piseev is just po'd because Russian coaches in the US have developed several outstanding US and Canadian ice dance teams. At the Senior level, in the last 5 years, North American teams with Russian coaches have won 6 World medals and one Olympic medal. In the last 6 years, 9 North American teams with Russian coaches have medaled at Junior Worlds, and 4 of the 6 Junior World Ice Dance Champions have been North Americans with Russian coaches.

I think he is bit frustrated that he can't even sway so called best freind of his wife, Natalia Linchuck to come back to russia and train the teams in Russia. On top of that he now knows Vasiliev takes his teams back to N. America.

Overall i thought the guy was trying to be humorous (yes, that may be the reason why we all caught off-guard ). Even if he was serious, i think he can perfectly be unhappy because i don't think any of the these countries trained these skater; they all came out of soviet system
