I noticed that Xiangyi An is working on 2 long programs this season. Which one do you prefer ?
1) Curse of the Golden Flower
2) Lara and My Torment

Of course her work with Benoit.
her programs with Benoit are very interesting
Golden Flower is awful Korean choreography

I agree with the others that her work with Benoit Richaud is the best!
I think she has a better connection with the music of Curse of the Golden Flower.
But, her program of Lara and My Torment have so much potential.
I feel like Benoit should go back to her and rework the program, because Xiangyi An doesn't seem to connect with the music like before due to the fact that it's been too long since she did this program in competition.

Richaud can be a great choreographer for certain skaters, but often he seems to not really tailor it to the skater.
Being radical/out there with movements and music choice is great, if the skater really seems to connect with it (or give the impression they do).

I really liked Lara and My Torment.
It was very interesting to see characteristic Benoit movements "on a different canvas", done by a skater who has a different school and a different character. And I enjoyed the result. I'll be honest, Xiangyi did not convince me that she truly understood what she was doing and why . At the same time though, she absolutely told the story by her body line, by the visual image of the girl she was, sometimes awkward, sometimes light like a flower in the wind... and by the end of the program, I already felt that her unawareness was somehow very fitting in this story.
