Who Will Win Ladies Bronze?

Anything can happen at worlds this year, but it is safe to assume that Mao and Kim are the heavy favorites going into the event. I think what is more interesting is the battle for Bronze amongst the ladies. There are so many talented potential contenders.

* Joannie Rochette: She's been having a much more consistent season, and had an impressive 2nd at 4CC, but Worlds traditionally has been Joannie weakest event. I think whether Joannie can win a medal or not depends on her SP. If she can come close to nailing that triple-triple, she'll be in the running. If she collapse in the SP, then she'll have to bank on another strong FP to finish in the top 5.

* Miki Ando: The main question is whether she'll be ready when worlds comes around. Even though her skating still leaves me little to desire, if she repeats what she did last year, I think she'll have a great shot for 3rd.

* Yukari Nakano: Something about her just doesn't do it for me, and the judges feel the same way to. She's improving, but I still don't see a world medalist quite yet. However, she is the most consistent in terms of jumps out of all the medal contenders, and at the end of the day, whoever has the most points wins...

* Carolina Kostner: Lets see...If she was more consistent, she'll could possibly challenge for the title. The SP will put Kostner up there, so it all comes down to how well she can hold herself up in the FP. Honestly, it's her Bronze to lose...

* Kimmie Meissner: Right now, it's more of a fight for a top 5 position, but you never now. She needs her jumps back, and a few skaters to mess up for her to have a shot.

I think Kostner will lead the pack after the SP, but will falter a little in the FP, hence it'll come down to points on whether she'll stay up there or not. Rochette will do well in the FP, possibly even 3rd but won't be able to dig her self up high enough to medal. Lot of possible scenarios.....we shall see.

What do you guyz think?

The bronze will come down to Miki Ando, Joannie Rochette, Carolina Kostner, and Yukari Nakano. Protocols show that Joannie has the highest average of the 4 in points earned internationally this season, so I'd like to say momentum is in her favor. If the World bronze was solely based on performances and points this season, it would be Rochette's bronze! However, skepticism does come into play given it's the World Championships, which has been Joannie's gauntlet event in the past. I sincerely hope she can cast aside those WC demons and show the level of skating she is capable of! I agree that the SP will tell her story. She is so strong in the LP, the strongest of all the bronze medal challengers in that phase of the competition this season, but can she skate a clean SP? That has been the question on so many occasions for Joannie . . . I hope she can! She needs a repeat of 4CC or better. Yukari needs to avoid her habit of underrotating the jumps. Carolina really has to concern herself with staying focused in the LP . . . so many times she has crashed and burned in that phase of the competition. Miki needs to return to the form she showed last season. It will be an exciting battle for sure!

Joannie: Points Average = 172.54
4CC = 179.54
COR = 169.91
SC = 168.18

Yukari: Points Average = 171.72
GPF = 172.96
COR = 172.77
SC = 169.43

Carolina: Points Average = 164.69
Euros = 171.28
GPF = 178.93
NHK = 164.69
COC = 143.86

Miki: Points Average = 161.79
4CC = 177.66
NHK = 145.81
SA = 161.89

lets not forget yu-na's injury. she could come away with another bronze. even mao could. I am putting my money of kostner though. this seems like it is her year and if she can skate a clean SP, she will be right up there in the top 3 for the freeskate.

My pick would be yu-na kim. I don't know how severe her injury was. If she healthy enough, she has great chance of winning the gold medal. If she really injury, with previous competition mark, I still think she can earn a medal.

I think that this is a hard one to pick. I think that there are too many women that will be fighting for medals...period. It should be an interesting competition.

I think it will be either Carolilna Kostner or Joannie Rochette.

Kinda surprised no one has mentioned this, but if she does her best, it could very well be Kimmie Meissner. But that's a long shot given how she has been doing recently.

There is one huge difference here this year I haven't seen mentioned yet and it could play a huge factor too...

The Ladies Event goes first for the Singles this year at Worlds for the first time in....I don't remember actually. So the SP is Wednesday night, not Friday as in past years. For those who battle their nerves, getting their event out of the way first might just help them.

Maybe I'm just spitballing here, but it's a thought.

I'm pulling for Ashley Wagner. I feel she skates as well or better then some of the top ladies, plus she's a fighter.

I second that. Looks like she is going to add 3-3 in her programs, then she will solidify her leads over other bronze contenders.

That's only if she lands it and the others don't. Has Nakano ever landed a clean 3-3 in competition? I think Rochette, Ando and Kostner all have more chance than she has of making the SP top three.

I like her skating, though.

I think Carolina will take the bronze.. Though i don't like her much, she is the European Champion!

Well, the European Championships were a bit of a - disaster? She kept popping her jumps and was beaten by Sarah Meier in the free program. Her jumps (except for the telegraphing) are as good and as powerful as Yu-Na Kim's - but she never completes all of them. I also think that she didn't develop much style over the years, her flow is great, she has good positions - but something's missing.

I think that the podium will be Ando, Asada and Kim. So one of them will get the Bronze.
