Wierd Link - How do they do it?

I just took a closer look and figured it out. See if you can find the secret. I feel stupid now that I know and I didn't get it the first time.

does it take away 2 cards every time? because the last time it took away the queen of clubs AND the queen of diamonds

I got it on the second try. NONE of the original cards is there when the cards reappear! Close... but not the same. Notice how quickly the cards disappear after they reappear to show you your card is missing. For instance, the first hand shown is King of Hearts, Jack of Clubs, King of Spades, Queen of Diamonds, Queen of Clubs, Jack of Diamonds. NONE of these cards is in the second "reappearance". You just assume they are the same because they're picture cards!
