Yu-Hsiang Li's 2025–26 season was remarkable. After earning his place at the Olympic Winter Games, he was also selected as Chinese Taipei's flag bearer at the Opening Ceremony—an honor he described as one of the most emotional moments of his career.

In our latest interview, Li reflects on:
  • Becoming an Olympian and representing Taiwan on the world's biggest stage.
  • Growing up in a country where figure skating has limited resources and opportunities.
  • The sacrifices his family made to support his skating career.
  • Learning from his first Olympic and World Championship experiences.
  • Training more independently as he prepares for the 2026–27 season.
  • His goal of consistently breaking the 200-point mark and helping raise the profile of men's figure skating in Taiwan.

  • What part of Li's story resonates with you the most?
  • Do you think training more independently can help or hinder a skater at this stage of their career?
  • What are your expectations for Yu-Hsiang Li this season?

I've always enjoyed Yu-Hsiang's skating, he has such presence on the ice.

The sacrifices that families must make to keep a skater on the ice always astound me.

Because figure skating is such an expensive sport, his parents worked extensively to provide financial support. As a result, Li spent much of his childhood living with his grandmother while they focused on earning enough to sustain his training.
“Sometimes when I saw other children spending more time with their parents, I felt envious,” he admitted.

I admit I am skeptical of the decision not to train with one coach, and I hope it is not financial. I look forward to Yu-Hsiang's skates this year.:hap10:
