Who has the best chemistry in Ice Dance?

I think "romantic" on-ice chemistry is overrated. Too often teams rely on that instead of actually giving a meaning to their programs. Look at Kaitlin and Andrew for example: after the success of "Je suis Malade" and "Yo soy Maria" they have had an endless amount of programs that make little sense and only showcase their "chemistry", while programs like "42 street" and "The sound of music" still show their great connection but are also 1. less generic 2.more suitable to show their personalities 3.still make their connection shine through without being thrown in your face for no reason.
Zach and Madi are another example: last season I think they struggled to make their FD work, but in the end it was probably their best program ever so OF COURSE instead of continuing on that path, this year they are doing a supposedly sexy hip-hop SD that is a hot mess, and the most boring schmaltzy FD ever, which is continuing this trend of not taking risks and not even making any effort to try something different.
Even Tessa and Scott have often stagnated because it was easy to just take the romantic route: some of their lovey dovey programs are gorgeous Mahler, Umbrellas of Cherbourg), but some were totally uninspired and done due to lack of better ideas (Seasons, Funny face, The waltz goes on). Programs like this year's SD or their Pink Floyd FD are just so much more organic: you can see a concept and a choreography to match plus their chemistry, and that takes their performances on a different level.
I think the connection and complicity between the partners is an important aspect of their skating, I only wish it wasn't the centre of the performance all the time. I love the way Anna and Luca or Piper and Paul act and interact on the ice, and the supportive "we are family" vibe that the Shibs and the Parsons can bring, as much as the insane chemistry the Tessa and Scott of this world can have.

I agree on this year's SD and Pink Floyd FD are my favourites from Tessa & Scott together with Flamenco 2010 OD. Umbrellas from Cherbourg were wonderful as well. They have great chemistry on the ice but ''The Seasons'' 2013/2014 FD was not my favourite either, felt like recycled Mahler 2.0 - coincidentally from previous Olympic season.

I don't quite understand Evan. If I spent so much time on and off ice with Madison as he did I would be helplessly and madly in love, beyond any recovery.

Especially now since she has broken up with Deividas... ;)

Rumor has it that Madison and Evan are romantically involved. So it's possible you can stop puzzling over Evan now.

What works for you, for me it's uncomfortable. I am not a fan of sibling teams. It's subjective, I know, but this entire thread is subjective. It bothers me to watch siblings skating together. Can't help.

I know what you mean. (Although it never bothered me back in high school when a girl would drag her brother to escort her to the sock hop when she didn't have a date. :) )

Anyway, you have to go with what you got and make it work for you.

If you are Madison Chock, "what you got" is the persona of a glamorous, sexy diva. She was packaged this way even as a teenager in juniors. (In fact, that is what made me uncomfortable.)

Maia, in contrast, is the girl next door (if you happen to live next door to the prettiest and sweetest girl in town).

I remember one time Maia and Alex were invited to a state dinner at the White House in honor of the Prime Minister of Japan. By all accounts, she charmed the room. (She was too young to drink, so she participated in all the toasts with her water glass held high.) Here she is with Asia-Pacific security advisor Patrick Cronin. She also met a bunch of Japanese American celebrities, including George Takei.

The best chemistry I have not found in ice dance, but in pairs. Between Tarasova and Morozv. You feel the two love each other.

LOL WHAT.

Watching those two is like watching a jar of mayonnaise and a slice of untoasted white bread.

OK, you are right if you understand under chemistry not tenderness but crackling erotic tension. In this field were probably Ilinykh with Katsalapov the best.

I totally agree! There is nothing rehearsed in their chemistry. I very often feel that the chemistry between pairs who are lauded for their chemistry (say, Hubbell/Donohue for example) feels too rehearsed. That is of course only my opinion and I can well understand why people like those pairs. A skating program is a performance after all. For each their own I guess.

OK, you made me look up the chemistry of mayonnaise. Natural foes like Romeo and Juliet, or oil and water, are irresistibly drawn together by the power of an emulsifier (egg yolks). Yum, yum.

Best ice-melting chemistry in ice dance: Dubreuil and Lauzon. Even their names sound sizzling.

Same favorites here for Tessa and Scott with the exception of this year's SD. I know it's well done but just doesn't grab me as much as some of their other programs (I realize I'm in the minority here).

I'd put in a vote for Dubreuil and Lauzon along with V/M. You always got the feeling that Patrice and Marie-France were attracted to each other. Hubbell and Donahue have good chemistry. I like the vibe between W/P as well. I/K had great chemistry but I guess it didn't come from a good place. Some of the most famous movie couples who are said to have lots of chemistry actually really didn't like each other very much. Take Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable as the classic example. You don't have to be on good terms to have chemistry. Some chemistry comes in the push-pull of attraction and dislike.

Yes! Madi and Zach!!! ❤️ They're chemistry on and off the ice is just so 😍😍😍! Especially after last night's unfortunate fluke moment, Madi expressed her appreciation for Zach in the press conference and Zach kept caressing her. They're very cute together ❤️ And yes, their FD this season is one of a kind!❤️

Which was presumably true given that they're married now. I know not all off ice couples have good chemistry on the ice, but still.

I hope this isn't veering too off topic here, but this thread made me wonder how many current pairs and ice dance teams are couples off the ice. Not that many, I think. I'm only mentioning ones who are known because I'm not entirely comfortable speculating--seems too personal. In pairs I can think of Sciemeca Knierim / Knierim, Volosozhar / Trankov, and Tarasova / Morozov, In ice dance I can think of Lauriault / Le Gac and Sinitsina / Katsalopov. Not too many. I am sure that togetherness can be a bonus but can also be difficult.

There has been a love fest among the pairs indeed, but in dance, I feel like relationships are more complicated. Sinitsina/Katsalapov might be something off-ice but on-ice, they are dull and their chemistry pales in comparison to Elena and Nikita's chemistry. Numerous commentators have called them out for that... In fact, the people from TSL have said that the Shibs have better chemistry than them 😳😳😳 Oops...

Apparently Madi and Zach dated a few years ago and then broke up. I heard that she's dating a Spanish ice dancer who also trains in the Montreal school.

Although they are apparently "dating" other people, the way they interact says otherwise... They still seem to be very much in love with each other and a lot of people think so.

Yeah. Rewatch Worlds 2016. If I remember it well then before short dance she whispers to him I love you so... Maddie is currently dating Adria Driaz. Ice partner of Zach's gf Olivia Smart. So...

And Charlie said to Meryl ¨I love you¨ too, that does not mean he is in love with her.
