I apologize for my pervios comment about the site. I was clicking the wrong link. It seems to be updating by the minute, with most of the SR CD results up already. No problem :) I'm however finding it odd that the second group for the Senior CD finished quite a while ago, and no new results have come up since (including estimated time for resurfacing and warmup...). Maybe I'm just stressed or something, I really want to see the scores on how the top teams do... and how much of a lead Tessa and Scott can create after the CD. Also slightly disappointed to see Asher-Hill so low down, but it is their first competition as Seniors, after all...

Oh, never mind, just as I posted, Chong and Gfeller's marks came up.

:frown:Ouch for Weaver & Poje and HannMcCurdy Coreno. Crone Poirier, Karan/O'Keefe, and Chong/Gfeller are all ahead of them
:frown:

Only C&P are far ahead, though.

The rest of the senior CD marks are up...

1 Tessa Virtue / Scott Moir WO 39.33
2 Vanessa Crone / Paul Poirier CO 35.62
3 Siobhan Karam / Kevin O Keefe EO 31.97
4 Andrea Chong / Guillaume Gfeller QC 31.92

6 Allie Hann-McCurdy / Michael Coreno BC/YT 30.95
7 Mylene Lamoureux / Michael Mee QC 30.24
8 Mylene Girard / Jonathan Pelletier QC 29.94
9 Kharis Ralph / Asher Hill CO 27.39
10 Patricia Stuckey / Christopher Mior WO 25.54
11 Megan Wilson / Marcus Connolly QC 23.83
12 Sarah Flesher / Jamie Forsythe QC 23.75
13 Rebecca Fowler / Iliya Koreshev BC/YT 23.03
14 Claire Tannett / Wendell McGrath AB/NT/NU 22.14
15 Helen Ramful / Garett Goodman AB/NT/NU 21.66

Weaver & Poje don't stand a chance. I really hope they can move up to third. It's great to see Virtue & Moir getting such strong marks, since they are not generally too overmarked at nationals. It's also nice to see someoen challenge Virtue & Moir technically. C&P's tech score was less than a point lower that Virtue & Moir's. I did read that Skate Canada is waiting until after Four Continents in Vancouver to announce the world team, since they want the best shot at getting a lot of spots for Canada at the Olympics, so nationals results are not set in stone this year.

I agree with your "assessment" (for lack of a better word at this time of night...)

Third is pretty much a virtue tie with not even 0.1 point between the teams placed third through fifth (Karam-O'Keefe, Chong-Gfeller, Weaver-Poje).
Disappointed to see Asher-Hill so far down (9th) -- even Crone-Poirier were only 6th last year in their Senior debut, and placed 4th overall despite being 2nd in the Free. Will they be able to pull up onto the National Team?
Also stunned to see last year's medallists 5th and 6th. Actually, seeing Chong-Gfeller ahead of Weaver-Poje (even if it's just 0.03 points!) is shocking -- I though Weaver-Poje were much better.

Bottom line, because I'm falling asleep, I wish we could see videos of these dances just for the sake of comparing -- eg. did Weaver-Poje just randomly mess up or have the others really surpassed them or what?

I am a little shocked that Weaver/Poje are not 3rd. It seems that Skate Canada considers them to be part of the glut that I thought would be from 4th to 7th. I thought they would have 3rd all to themselves , nowhere close to 2nd or 4th.

Not surprised by McCurdy/Coreno though. These results are in line with what happened over the summer. Karam/O'Keefe managed to beat them in the FD in Thornhill even though Karam twice had problems with her skate blade caught in her dress doing twizzles in that performance and McCurdy/Coreno were reasonably clean. Karam/O'Keefe and Chong/Gfeller were virtually neck and neck in Nebelhorn until Karam/O'Keefe had the really bad fall on a lift incurring multiple deductions in the FD.

It will be interesting how much ground Asher/Hill can make up in the OD and FD. I do expect them to move up as CD's have always been their weakness.

Ouch!! I did not realize that the Canadian lost one spot at Worlds this year because of W/P low ranked at Worlds last year. They were doing so well, so much talking that they're on the way to Vancouver 2010. Maybe C/P can be in the top 10 or 11 this year to earn the third spot for Oly.( if V/M make top three at Worlds, which is very likely).

I hope Crone-Poirier can be there this year. I think the judges are ready to let them into the top 10 -- second at Skate Canada (though Péchalat-Bourzat didn't perform at their usualy level) and fourth at Trophée Éric Bompard... same start as Virtue-Moir (even their senior debut 4th place last year!). However, if you look at the last two years, in 2007 we had Dubreuil-Lauzon 2nd, Virtue-Moir 6th, Weaver-Poje 20th; in 2008, Virtue-Moir 2nd, Weaver-Poje 17th, Hann-McCurdy-Coreno 19th. I'd like to think that Crone-Poirier will follow in Virtue-Moir's footsteps, but I'm also thinking that everyone was predicting great things for Weaver-Poje after they did so well in their first year together...

Bottom line, I'm happy to see Crone-Poirier do well, and hope they do well on the World stage, too. It's still disappointing to see Weaver-Poje struggle, however...

PS nice to see that Crone-Poirier will be 2nd in their second year; for Virtue-Moir, they were 3rd and just missed competing in Torino in 2006, and some were talking about ice dance politics interfering, since Tessa and Scott were second in both the original and free dances...

Let's not exagerate...Megan Wing and Aaron Lowe were top 10 in the world at the moment and finished 11 at the olympics. They were slightly better at that moment than Tessa and Scott, who were not yet at that artistical level. I have seen it life and those two deserved to win the second place, ever so slightly.

Why W/P are almost plateau when others are making progress, and surpassed them? Even a brand new team like C/G. They seemed to make progress, moving up at each competition. I remember seeing C/G at Lake Placid last Aug, they did not medal in FD or OD. In few months at Nebelhorn, they got much better and now at Nationals, they could be on the podium !!

Chong and Gfeller were last in the CD at Skate Canada (granted, the paso doble, not the Viennese waltz). They were also last in the OD & FD. I'm shocked that they are in 3rd, particularly as W&P portray a nice, romantic waltz character. It does make me suspect W&P made some error, particularly as the 5th segment of the dance (protocols are up) had negative GOE.

I heard about this on another forum, too, but I haven't seen an official source. Did SC make some sort of annoucement that they will determine the World team on 4CC results instead of Nationals?

Yes they indeed did say that. I would say that dance ( 2 entries ) is the only event where 4CC would change nothing.

The mens might have an issue if Fedor medals. I think SC would want Fedor to prove himself internationally at 4CC before giving him his ticket to worlds.

In pairs, the SC will use 4CC to evaluate if Langlois/Hay are healthy enough for worlds ( if they do compete there).

In ladies, 4CC will probably be the skateoff for the 2nd world spot.

Do you have a link to SC's announcement? I believe you, but I just want to read it for myself, that's all.

Since SC is going to use 4CC as a measuring stick for Worlds, would they bother to send Chan there since he's pretty much a guaranteed a spot?

That's great for R/S-L, sice they did not get a single negative GOE in any phase of the competition. Looks like they'll be headed back to junior worlds!

BTW, does anyone know of any sites that have pictures? There are a few at slam.canoe.ca and a few at cbc.ca/sports, but the event sight has not been updated at all, and I don't know where else to look.
