He's looking good. A bit careful but he should get the points.

Andreev received 76.41 for that performance. That's the highest score he has earned for a SP so far.

Is this one choreographed by Jeff Buttle?
I read months ago that Jeff Buttle would choreograph for Andreev. I wonder if this is it.

Yes. Buttle had choreographed Andreev's programs last year, and Fedor has decided to keep them both for this season (with some minor tweaking).

ETA: This is Fedor's LP at Skate Detroit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41leyIZSZt8 He earned 132.36 for this performance (his best ever for the free), which gives him a total of 209.04. He won the event by almost 29 points.

I'm assuming he's ready for Nebelhorn then! Is he signed up from AZE there ? I really like that Tchaikovsky LP! I'm glad he kept it.

I was happy to see that LP again, too! I'm not overly fond of the SP music, but the LP is wonderful. If he can ever get all the planned tech in, he could score very well with that program. I really hope he'll make it to the Olympics.

With on or two boboos, he still skated that Violin Concerto with gracious aplomb. I have to admire Jeff Buttle for steering him in the right direction. He will be forcing the Men's Front Runners to skate clearn.

Why does Canada produce so many good choreographers? .

Depending on the Entrants for Nebelhorn, if he wins it, he will be a Front Runner.

Why does Canada produce so many good choreographers? .

This is a good question. I think it may stem from the fact that most Canadian skaters have very good basics and most choreographers were successful senior level skaters. The solid knowledge base of basic skills may lead to an understanding of how the body moves, how the blades flow across the ice, and what movement can be achieved with music.

ETA: I think Canada is also the leading nation in regards to understanding COP and many resources have been made available to assist skaters and choreographers.

Also, I think "classical" and "traditional" are seen as "good". That is why many famous choreographers are Russians for the same reason.

According to a recent news clip, Mao Asada has been allegedly training a 3Lo-3 Lo! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-f_zDL_GEs

Thanks for the news! :)

Omg, this reminds me of two of the best edge jumpers of all time -- Tara Lipinski & Sarah Hughes -- the former made the 3R-3R her signature jump, and the latter having performed it once perfectly at the 1999 US Nationals at the tender age of 13 (shown here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUBm8ziP0AM , which earned her a place at her first Sr. Worlds. Though she had to drop her favorite combo. so that she could perform 3T-3R & 3S-3R at the 2002 Olympics without having violated the Zayak rule.

I find it fascinating that the best jumpers out there all excel in the edge jumps, it's their comfort zone -- Tonya Harding, Midori Ito, Tara Lipinski, Sarah Hughes, Mao Asada, to name a few.

I look forward with great anticipation & excitement to see what Mao's final jump layout will be, if she will change it up a bit (as Sarah Hughes did throughout her Olympic Season) or do the same jumps every time out in order to get comfortable with it. This should be exciting!

p.s. I'm also looking forward to the two men that are performing to music by Jimi Hendrix, a hometown favorite here in Seattle.

Tara Lipinski and Sarah Hughes were not two of the best jumpers of all time. Lipinski had one of the worst flutzes ever and other poor technique that was shown in her double axel. Hughes routinely cheated the majority of her jump combinations and also had a very bad flutz. If the two were competing today they would receive a lot of edge calls and would me marked down for under-rotations.

Thinking of Tara as an edge jump specialist, I can't think of her consecutive loop jumps as being anything special, except in Nagano. They were ususally UR, but not when it counted most. Her second loop had absolutely no flow out but it landed within the limits of judging.. All her jumps, when measured in height, were somewhere between 1.0 and l.75 inches off the ice. There was no need for a monitor to screen the obvious Flutz.

Yes. I believe Fedor mentioned on his Twitter page last week that he'll be skating in Oberstdorf.

I really like that Tchaikovsky LP! I'm glad he kept it.

Me too!

I'm not overly fond of the SP music,

I agree that Andreev's SP music could've been better (it seems a bit... slow? somewhat plain, maybe?), but I think it's OK. You can blame Buttle for that; he was the one who selected the song. He felt the piece showcased his friend's natural good-looks and sexiness. :p (Marina Zoueva was the one who chose "Violin Concerto".)

but the LP is wonderful. If he can ever get all the planned tech in, he could score very well with that program.

There is indeed a lot of potential there! I hope we'll get to see detailed results for the competition soon---I'm very curious what the judges gave Fedor in terms of PCS. His LP score at Skate Detroit was higher than Chan's at Liberty, and I wonder how much of a disadvantage Andreev is on the 2nd mark compared to Chan.

I really hope he'll make it to the Olympics.

Please Skate Gods, let it be so! Unlike the previous two seasons, Andreev has started his training early, so hopefully things can only improve from here.

With on or two boboos, he still skated that Violin Concerto with gracious aplomb. I have to admire Jeff Buttle for steering him in the right direction.

It's interesting that you've noticed that! Jeff actually advised Fedor before his Skate Detroit LP to "ooze patience", and it clearly showed during the performance. Their partnership should lead to great things this season!

I love both pieces, and oddly enough both are asian in theme. But really, another skater using memoirs of Geisha? I remember when I was pleading in this board for somebody to skate to music from that soundtrack after I saw the movie. I should have kept my big mouth shut. Geisha is officially more popular than Carmen.
