Here is a video of Shizuka's version of "Hana wa saku" with local Sendal skaters in the first half of the video (and choreographed by Nanami Abe) and the 2nd half of the video is a group performance starring Shizuka, Takeshi Honda, Stephane Lambiel and Miyu Honda.

Thank you for the links, echotpe and mikaboo, you are both god-sent to all Yuzuru fans. I do hope that that program could also be simultaneously aired via NHK World ... *crosses fingers*

To be serious, I am very grateful for Yuzuru’s contribution to the disaster stricken areas.
Big, rich city like Sendai has been recovering well, but rural area, especially coastal part of North-Eastern Japan, is still beyond recovery. Yuzuru could encourage people who are living there or from there, and remind others (including me) what they should do as fellow Japanese..

Actually, I was working on it now! I'll post it here when I'm done :)

------------
I bet someone with better skills will eventually translate this, but until then, if you want to know what was said in the program asap, here is my rough translation.

0:30
Narrator: Hanyu has been skating at this rink since he was 4 years old and he was practicing here when the earthquake struck. The rink was badly damaged and Hanyu thought that he would not be able to skate again. Hanyu overcame the disaster and continued to skate. He won the gold medal at Sochi Olympics this year with his strong performance. He has been thinking what he can do for his home town as a medalist,
1:15
Yuzuru: I've always felt, and I am still feeling, "what could I have done?" If I can do something for the disaster stricken areas, I wanted to do so proactively so this was a good opportunity for me to start.
1:40
Narrator: The program is choreographed by Nanami Abe who coached him at this rink. She has taken his feelings and incorporated them into the choreography.
Nanami: What images did you have when you heard the song?
Yuzuru: For the lyrics, looking back to the past, a little bit of the present, but mostly the future. In the end, being full of determination and steadily looking towards the future.
Nanami: Wonderful!
1:26
Narrator: The damaged flowers signify the sacrifices paid, the movements express carrying of the sorrow, and standing up strongly while looking towards the future.
2:45
By seeing and hearing this performance, I would like more people to remember that the earthquake did occur and great sacrifices were paid and from there, if they could think about "what can be done now", "what did we leave behind" and connect the past, the present, and the future, not only in relation to the disaster, but in view of our own lives.
------------

The last part was difficult to translate. I hope it makes sense. I might edit it later if I can come up with something better.

“After 100 years have passed and no one remembers anymore how or why this song was written, I hope it continues to be sung, authors unknown”.

In 100 years and more ,may be the authors will be unknow then ,may be a skater from Sendai will be remembered skating to this beautiful song.
Amazing song,amazing people from Sendai.

Wow Kanno Yoko is amazing, some of the best musical themes from anime have been composed by her. Sakamichi no Apollon, Scaflowne, Wolf´s Rain and Cowboy Bebop are all well respected by their music.

Oh wow, it's so touching for Yuzu to continue to help, bring awareness and comemorate what happened in March 2011.

I absolutely love the concept of the song and the choreography! It's great to hear that he makes use of every second of his time in Japan to help his townspeople and skate beautifully.

I have so much respect and admiration for Coach Abe Nanami, so wonderful to see them working together again other than group numbers.

After Sochi, I had thought that the Japanese media would for sure "pounce" on everyone and everything related to him, including his past coaches, friends, families, etc. It's understandable since he literally shot to fame to the general public and so many TV shows are mentioning his name here and there whenever they can.

Kudos for everyone around him to be so low-key and non-attention seeking. I don't think she has even given an interview regarding Hanyu-kun's gold medal run. Sometimes the media does respect the privacy of family members but I think they would've thought coaches are fair game. So she probably had turned down the offers (just my guess), but continue to support him in her own way (with her husband too).

I am so happy that he has these wonderful people to surround himself with.

Now back to my lurking place!...

I'm looking forward to DOI 2014 to be aired.
I hear Yuzuru may (might) be performing his new SP (source: Sports Hochi )

http://www.onice.jp/
http://www.onice.jp/DOI14/guests.html

It says Elena Radionova will be in.
Keiji, Ryuju and Shoma also will be in. So nice.

http://www.fujitv.co.jp/otn/b_hp/914200124.html

It will be aired on July 5 at CS Fuji TV ONE, 18:00 - 20:00

I was a bit surprised that there are so many programs everyday featuring figure skating, or figure skaters.
It was never like this 10 years ago.

Edit:
I want to see Koshiro Shimada in the Beppu Exhibition too :)
Really hoping its broadcasting.
