One small but vital correction. Fumie's intended triple flip was downgraded to a double. Thus she got a base value of only 1.7 for this element, instead of 5.5.

The true base value of her technical elements is 57.4 (including the 10% bonus). This puts her in a virtual dead heat with Sasha's base value of 57.5.

(Sasha's base value is true because she did get full credit for completing the revolutions, even on the jumps that she flubbed.)

So Fumie has to make up the 3.62 points that Sasha leads by now, plus the 3.16 points that Sasha can natually expect in PCS and the .1 in TES base value. This is 6.88 points. Plus, if Sasha skates well she will pick up some GOEs on her spins and spirals.

That's why I put Sasha's lead at "two falls." If Fumie skates perfectly, Sasha will have to give up about 8 points for Fumie to win.

Hey MM,
Thanks for the "bonus info." :) However, just to be clear, in my post, it was my intention to go only by the TES scores of what the skaters intended to do for their Olympic LPs as listed on the detailed judging sheets. I purposefully didn't include any bonus points or downgrades because I didn't want to get into how the skaters performed.

However, your information is very helpful for those who want to do a more detailed analysis of how Fumie and Sasha compare. I give you a Level 4 and a GOE of +3.

Thanks for the levels and the GOE, but I need a do-over.

The base values listed on the detailed judging sheets are not what the skaters intended to do. They are what the skaters were actually given credit for by the Technical Specialist.

Fumie planned to do a triple flip (base value 5.5). Instead, the tech specialist called it a double. The number listed as the "base value" is the base value for a double flip (1.7). This is also the number that is included in the "Total base value" at the bottom of the column.

So the number that is listed as Fumie's "total base value" includes the base value for the double flip that she got credit for, not the triple flip that she had planned.

Sasha, on the other hand, got full credit for every element that she planned, so there is no discrepancy.

(Something like that. )

Mathman did you include the fact that Sasha was suppose to do a 3/2/2 on the lutz she fell on? Base value was only for a lutz at the olympics since she didn't attempt the combo. That would be 8.8 instead of 6.0.

At Nats Sasha's base value was a 61.3. That is her planned content with everything.

Belbin and Agusto are "being kept down" because they are not that good - not the judges fault. Their free dance lacked lustre.

I totally agree with you Ladskater. I found them boring and too busy last night. Too many technical things and not enough DANCING.

No, I didn't take that into account. Thanks. So this means Sasha would have to totally tank to give Fumie a chance to catch her.
