Great start for Oda! Nebelhorn was his competition to lose. Great score too. And his score will only rise with better pcs in a near future.

A really good start for Nobu this season, and for team Morozov.
I can see, with my eyes closed, Nicholai proudly smiling beside Nobu.

Actually, Morozov is probably busy planning some more heavy training. It reminds me of a situation when a fan said to Morozov after the Moran Memorial competition that his skaters were amazing. Nikolai replied simply: "Not amazing!"
I think he has very high standards, but also believes that his skaters can reach them. I think it's one of the things that make his pupils good competitors; they become stronger mentally.
After a training session with Morozov a competition is probably a walk in the park!

Indeed! he beat out a Junior and not of the Morozov technqiue.

So winning against non-Morozovian skater has recently become less prestigious? I must have missed a memo.

I think that was definitely a huge step forward for Nobunari. This was his first international competition, and not so long ago he wasn't mentally stable enough to compete at all. He suffered from mental trauma and struggled with harder jumps because of an eating disorder.
In addition, he missed an entire season and came into this event as a big unknown, to compete against European Champion and former Nebelhorn Champion who is doing great in the junior GP. He was under heavy pressure, because he has very few international assignments, and he needs to establish himself as a contender as soon as possible and get his PCS back to the level they were before.
Moreover, he competed against skaters for whom Obersdorf is their home rink. Meanwhile, Nobunari is not used to competing at high altitude. I received a PM with a report translation, saying that Nobunari felt quite exhausted while skating, and missed his second 3A and some revolutions in the final spin because he was losing stamina faster than usual.

In spite of all those struggles, and the the fact that in minor competitions so early in the season the judges aren't being very generous, his final score would put him on the podium at last Worlds, and his LP TES were slightly higher than Brian Joubert's. And that's despite the fact that now there is one less spin required in the LP! I think that's definitely a huge accomplishment and a great start for the season.

Good luck for Alyssa, Laura and Akiko! I hope they have a great skate. Nebelhorn turns out to be a great competition, with as many good skaters as some GP events.

Alissa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:love::love::love:

Now, if she places really well at Skate Canada, is there any hope she will get one more gp assignment?? Please?

Let's hold on folks....lol... Can she skate a clean 5 or 6 triple jump Free Skate? I am hoping she can, but frankly am not confident she will. It takes alot of time and work (physical and mental) to overhaul technical and confidence issues. Personally I will be shocked if she holds on to a top three finish, let alone win this event. Happy, delighted, but in total shock!

Wow! this is very impressive for ALissa. Sounds like it was a clean skate. I hope she can skate well at Nationals. That's where it will count the most.

At Liberty the entire crowd was mesmerized by her program.

WHERE ARE THE VIDEOS??????????

According to the protocols Alissa did 3Lz+2T, 3F, 3Lo<, 2A+2T, 3Lz, 3T+2T, 2A.

Her only mistake seems to have been on the loop. It was downgraded and she got -2 GOEs.

She got a ! (advisory edge call) on her flip. The judges' GOEs on that elemnt were 1, 0, -1, 0, 0, -1, 0, 0, -1. It will be interesting to see how that new "!" call works out this season.

I hope this is the springboard to Alissa's best season yet!

Here's a link to Alissa's LP:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcKn_m_wJFA

Nice choreography & music. Not to mention a nice skate for her. :)
Thanks for the link. I really appreciate it.

She skated, imo, somewhat cautiously, but maybe that's what Brian was working on to ensure her jumps are well executed. She certainly made the jumps appealing. That opening Lutz was textbook. The take off edge was perfect and right out there in the open. No hiding that one. Her spins are like the skate was nailed down in the center and never moved.

She has those long legs and short torso body to make any of her flexible moves outstanding. Her arms were quite ordinary but maybe Brian told her not to worry about them which could take away from concentrating on the jumps. (It's all about points!)

Allissa has a tough going in Skate Canada. I just hope she skates her best with clean programs. Two great competitions in a row will make her a real contender for the US Nats.

Ota and Naomi and Themi CANNOT get GP invitations because they are not on the ISU Seasons Best list. To get on the list, skaters must have participated in a JGP, GP or ISU Championship event. NN/L did not compete internationally last season, and Ota competed only in "B" Internationals, which do not count for the SB list.

Well, they can be invited by their home nations when they host a GP, if anyone withdraws.
Yes, but who decides the 3rd party?

The USA Ladies for Skate America are: Meissner, Flatt, Nagasu. Who would you leave off to be replaced by Allysa?
