The Return Of The Firebird. Evgeny Plushenko An Image of The New Russia

http://www.amazon.com/Return-Firebi...keywords=the+return+of+the+firebird+plushenko

Paperback – November 23, 2015
by Vildan Bahar Tuncay (Author)

"The Return of the Firebird, Evgeny Plushenko an image of the New Russia is about Russian figure skating and the world most decorated figure skater Evgeny Plushenko's sporting career intertwined with political and socio-economical changes of the last decades in Russia. In this scientific biography the author described the athlete like the precursor of a new style in Russian men figure skating after the classical and balanced style of the Soviet era. Plushenko became a sports icon and a popular male figure of the New Russia, the successor to the defunct Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, whose social values ceded the place to a Russian culture of glamour, luxuriance and excess, remembering the gleaming image and the turbulent flame of the mythical... Firebird."

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I suppose my work would interest Evgeny Plushenko's fans, figure skating spectators, journalists and commentators specialized in this discipline. I hope it will also contribute to the progress of the biography as genre in Social Sciences by rebuilding the historical context in which Plushenko realized his exceptional achievements, the environment that made them possible and contextual elements that explain his destiny in its uniqueness.

How do you know she's Canadian?

Cekoni( the head of Plushenko fans) wrote and I believe her. She probably read this page http://www.amazon.com/Vildan-Bahar-Tuncay/e/B018OSNR2C/ref=ntt_dp_epwbk_0

Quebec, Canada). Her publications are mainly about indigenous social movements and social policies in Latin America. A faithful spectator of figure skating competitions since her childhood, she also published a book on russian figure skating and legendary russian athlete Evgeni Plushenko's sporting career interwined with the political and socio-economical changes of the last decades in Russia: The Return of the Firebird. Evgeny Plushenko an image of the New Russia. This scientific biography is her first scientific work about Russia.

That just means she got her degrees from a Canadian university. It says nothing about her nationality.

A self-published book by someone who has little or no connection to him...yeah, I'll pass. Plushyfan, I would imagine you could probably write a more informative book. ;)

I think the parallels between the rise of Plushenko and the changes and Russia could make for an interesting study (even though I don't know enough about Russian history to deem them accurate). But the errors in the Amazon description page are enough to put me off. Plus of those 146 pages, quite a few of them will be (or ought to be) citations rather than content.

Now I'm just fantasizing about a well-written book about Russian figure skating history that also happens to be in English. I can dream.

25 dollars for a book is rather cheap even if it's a bad book LOL come on :) just the paper and printing cost half of that ;)

On the contrary, with the exchange rate as it is...I clicked the link, read the summary, cringed at the poor writing, and closed the page. I am sure the person has put a lot of work into it, but the poor writing would bother me far too much to take in the book's contents.

And given the length of history in Russia, and the length of Plushenko's career, I would have thought a lot more than 150 pages would be required!

Let us know how it is! That way I can know if I should save my $25 and use it on an Ice Network subscription instead. ;)

I will probably buy the book at the beginning of next year, because I bought tickets on Plushy's Kings on Ice show in Cluj Napoca. It will be this weekend, and it wont be in my country, thus the trip will be extra cost. :)

Lucky you! He never brings the show to North America. :(
