This girl... She just mesmerizes me :jaw: I can't wait for 2022. The battle between she and Gubanova will be very exciting  Just take care of your back, ok? Don't pull a Lipinski.

Here is the running order for the Oberstdorf Eisgala. Well, the best I could manage as I missed a bit of the Second Half (really gotta clear some space on the Hard Drive before Europeans come along!)

I'll write some short comments on a few of the routines and post them later on.

Hope this helps

Why do Z/G not skate in this Gala anymore ?. Usually the German Ice Dance Champions skate. They have not been on it for a couple of years.
W/L used to be in it every year.

Internal German politics that us in the UK will never understand!

Nah, probably more likely that Nelli just prefers to go home to Russia for the Christmas/New Year period. And it gives her the chance to cheer on her brother in Russian Nationals!

Well, that is the Oberstdorf Eisgala over for another year, and it was as enjoyable as ever!

Unfortunately, despite all our wishes, Miki Ando’s new boyfriend Javier Fernandez did not make a cameo appearance.

Although Miki was the headliner, we all know she was not the act that stole the show. No, the star of the show turned out to be a girl HALF Miki’s age, TWELVE-year-old Elizaveta NUGUMANOVA.

I have seen a few videos of Nugumanova practicing, but this was the first time I had seen her do actual routines. And she was VERY impressive! OK, so she had a fall at the start of the first routine, but it was as if it was instantly wiped from her memory. The rest of the routines were flawless. The quality of the skating was remarkable for somebody so young. Although, I have to admit that I did feel a bit uncomfortable watching a girl of that age.

You know, I had to laugh. There were times during the coverage when I forgot it was in Bavaria, and thought I was watching the Gala from Canadian Nationals! It was funny the way they had all the Canadians grouped together in both halves of the Gala!

I’m with Simon Reed when it comes to Jason GRAETZ. Does he have any actual bones?! The moves he was doing were simply unbelievable! I don’t think I will ever understand how his legs were able to bend the way they were bending! Or how he was able to stay upright! I know it was a great comedy routine, but (to mis-quote Dolly Parton) it takes a lot of talent and skill to look that talentless!

Of the routines I saw, Jason’s was definitely the best of the novelty routines, and is even knocking on the door of being the best routine of the night.

You all know I love Valentina MARCHEI, and wish that she had continued with her singles career. But, I have to be honest and admit that I didn’t like her solo routine. The music, the blouse, the hair – it was all wrong! And, much as I hate to say it, I didn’t really enjoy her skating either. Although, I did enjoy the skin-tight leather trousers she was wearing…! ;)

In fact, it says everything that the highlights package afterwards featured more of the interloper towards the end than it did of Vale!

Margarita DROBIAZKO / Povilas VANAGAS were the stars of the show last year, and they did not disappoint this year either. For a couple who are now in their mid-40’s, they still ooze sex-appeal! And although a lot of water has passed under the bridge since they were competing, you can still see why they were so successful. They have not lost any of that ability.

Last year I said that if Tobias / Stagniūnas had to withdraw from the Olympics, Drobiazko / Vanagas could step in and easily get into the Top 10. Well, now that Deividas has retired and Isabella has de-camped to Israel, I would love to see these two make a comeback to claim the vacant second Lithuanian slot at Europeans!

Nicole CALDERARI. What can you say?! Even younger than Nugumanova at ELEVEN years old. Although she is not quite at Liza’s level yet, she was still very impressive! Between their current top skaters and the likes of Calderari coming along in a few years time, Switzerland has got a bright future in figure skating.

The first routine from Sara HURTADO / Adria DIAZ was good, but for me the music spoiled it. Although I love “Stay With Me”, it should always be sung by Sam Smith on his own. I really did not like the duet used here. However, I LOVED Sara and Adria’s second routine. But, I have always loved this routine. Suffice to say, it is their current Short Dance.

Sergey YAKEMENKO. Oh dear. I thought we had all heard the last of the Crazy Frog years ago! But he has resurfaced in the form of a very impressive Ukrainian skater! Once you get past his costume, Sergey’s routine was amazing! I don’t think even Elladj Baldé could manage as many backflips in one routine as Sergey did! This guy was born to do shows!

And finally to the headliner, Miki ANDO. For her second routine at Oberstdorf, she did her SP from last season. It was so emotional when she performed it last year, particularly at Nationals. And although this time didn’t have the same circumstances (she was just back from having a baby, and we all knew this was her swansong season), I was again welling up.

HOWEVER, I wish she had not introduced vocals for the Oberstdorf performance. I have no idea who was singing (it certainly wasn’t Frank Sinatra!), but they were absolutely awful!

In one way, I was surprised that they had Shawn SAWYER closing the show. But, on the other hand, he was brilliant in both his routines. And seeing how good he is now, I am amazed that he did not get better results in his competitive career. Like, he has only one international podium (Skate America 2009), and the only time he was selected for the World Championship team was in 2006 (when he also made his sole appearance at the Olympics).

Finally to the Finale. And although she was only on for a short time compared to the older skaters who were on for the whole routine, Liza Nugumanova again stole the show!

One thing I did find interesting was that they mixed up partners in the Finale. So, for example, Sara Hurtado was paired up with Michal Brezina, while Meagan Duhamel was paired up with Shawn Sawyer. And it started me wondering. Now that we have seen Vale switch from singles skating to Pairs, who else might decide that they would prefer to have some company when they’re skating?

Just putting it out there, but I thought Brezina looked pretty good when partnering Hurtado. Have we got a future Ice Dancer in the making?

I just loved watching Miki last night. Also, it was great to see D/R. Their first routine was the best exhibition I have seen from them for a couple of seasons (My favourite being their exhibition at the 2013 Worlds).
I'. not convinced M/H will make a good pairs team yet. I'm a bit out of it when it comes to gossip so does anyone know why he & Stefania split ?. I thought they were really well matched.

I think anyone is going to look good, if they are partnering Sara Hurtado (she has enough glamour and charisma for both of them)... and I believe a sizable population of ladies would say the thing same about Brezina too...

If anybody has missed the Eisgala, Eurosport will shortly be showing a 2 hour highlights package.

It is due to start at 15:00 CET / 14:00 GMT (i.e. in a few minutes), but is likely to be more like 5 past the hour.

As the interval was around half-an-hour, there will probably only be 3 or 4 routines edited out.

Here are some links:

Eurosport International livestream

British Eurosport livestream

Currently showing LIVE qualifying for tomorrow's ski jumping. (Only a few left to jump).

Hope this helps

I'm not the technical type, does anyone know how to upload the gala when I recorded it on my DVD player? Is there any way how to play it on my computer?

You remember how I was getting very excited back in October when I discovered that Eurosport now had an On Demand service on Sky. And then when the GP Series started, I was disappointed to find that the figure skating wasn't going onto the said On Demand service.

Well, the Oberstdorf Gala is now on it!!!  :party2: :points:

So, Sky viewers in the UK will be able to download and watch it until Tuesday 6th January 2015 (not sure if it is available in Southern Ireland).

It's probably down to the way their television rights contracts have been worded, but it has been really winding me up that Eurosport's figure skating and biathlon coverage have not been going onto their On Demand service on Sky.

So, fingers crossed that this is a sign that Eurosport's figure skating coverage will be going onto the On Demand service from now on.

(Although, it's probably more likely a sign that the broadcasting deal was done directly between Eurosport and the organisers of the Eisgala, and the contract they signed allowed for the coverage to be available on the On Demand service)

Please be warned: there has been a new channel added before Eurosport in the list of On Demand services on Sky since October. So, here are the new directions to get to it:

To access Eurosport On Demand, press the TV Guide button, then select "Catch Up TV". Then press the "Channel Down" button twice to get onto the third page. The Eurosport programmes are in the box at the top left.

Once you go into the Eurosport box, it should be easy to find the Oberstdorf Gala from there, as it has a thumbnail of Meryl and Charlie on the ice. (Who, incidentally, were not at Oberstdorf! So, using a generic thumbnail like this is another thing that is raising my hopes that this is not a one-off...)

I downloaded the Eisgala from Eurosport On Demand this morning to see what all I had missed during the period when my Sky box was not recording on Tuesday night. And it turned out that all I had missed was most of Schauman / Rozycki's 2nd routine and the start of a set of adverts! There wasn't anybody else on between them and Brezina!

So, happy days! Although, I was a bit disappointed that Jason Graetz did not get a second routine...
