As the Golden Spin and Santa Claus Cup of this week-end were the last chance to reach TES to qualify for European Championships, we have now a good idea of how many skaters we'll see in Ostrava.

I'll update this post when we'll know more information about national selections.

Just some advanced warning of a minor change, which is unrelated to the slots.

Now, I don't know if we should be reading anything into this (hey, she could just be trying to make it more obvious who she is, and the pedigree she has), but Christopher Boyadji's new partner, Zoe Wilkinson, appears to have reverted back to using her maiden name of Zoe Jones.

This story from her local newspaper in the lead up to Nationals calls her Zoe Jones, and today the title of her Facebook Fan Page was changed from "Zoe Wilkinson fans" to "Zoe Jones - Fans"

So I would expect that, come January, we will probably see her appear in the Entry list with the name we were familiar with seeing on entry lists in the late 1990's / early 2000's.

Hey, I'm forecasting a lot of nostalgic talk from Simon and Chris when they see the name "Zoe Jones" on the start list! And even more when she comes onto the ice!

Jones or Wilkinson, I'm admirative with her return to competitive skating! :)

I just noticed that Goda Butkute has updated her IcePartnerSearch biography on november 24th, just after their bronze medal at Tallinn Trophy. So maybe one less pair.

It just goes to show that it doesn't matter what age you are - if you've got it, you've got it. :agree:

I do think it a shame that she didn't stick to Singles, because she would have had a good shot at the title this year. But, I guess her results last year achieved what she wanted to do (i.e. making a point to those that deprived her of her Olympic dream in 2002), and now she didn't want to deprive the younger skaters of their chance at glory.

This is going to be interesting seeing how she progresses as a Pairs skater over the next year or so. I really hope her and Chris do well.

Still baffled why we don't have any other Pairs couples. Like, what is Amani doing?

Mmmm. That's not a good sign. Especially half-way through the season before an Olympic season.

Do Lithuania have any back-up Pairs? Or are they in a position to quickly make new Pairs couples in time for Pyeongchang?

To get lithuanian citizenship is very difficult, it was a hard fight for Isabella Tobias to get it for Sochi (she skated 4 seasons with Stagniunas), and then, it has a bit shocked that she changed another time to skate for Israel.
I don't know if Ermolaev (born in Sankt-Peterburg, Russia) has lithuanian citizenship too (sometimes he was refered as "Ermolaevas", who sounds more lithuanian), but to find an other elite skater with lithuanian citizenship is impossible because there's no male skaters currently...

Pairs : between 19 and 22 entries (depending if Lech/Maestu and Pearce/Magyar are still active or not and if Butkute/Ermolaev split or not)
Lech/Maestu should be there, unless they're injured. I saw no info of them being inactive. Though they did not compete in any International Competition this season yet...

That whole situation with Tobias was why I was getting concerned with this development.

Although I had seen the results from the Latvian-Lithuanian Championships, I didn't have a really detailed look at the time. But I just went back to them and I see what you mean. ALL the Men's skaters competing at any level were Latvian.

You know, something is going to have to change. The combination of no local boys coming through and this strict policy on citizenship is badly putting Lithuania on the back foot.

I can't see the policy changing any time soon, so the local Federation are going to have to concentrate on trying to attract local boys to the sport.

Otherwise, figure skating in Lithuania is going to be only Ladies Singles very soon.

At Spanish championships (next weekend), no senior pair event is scheduled, but one junior event with 2 pairs. And we've not seen Lech/Maestu since 2016 Europeans, which means they've not tried to reach TES for 2016 Worlds...
Usually binational pairs of this level (good enough to go to Europeans but not enough to go to Worlds) doesn't survive more than 2 years :-(

On their Facebook Page there are some photos from August and no info of break up, that's why I assumed they're still skating together. I hope they will compete in Mentor Nestle Nesquick in Torun, to get TES. That may be just my wish, but not entirely impossible :)

I've read on french forum that Aritz Maestu is looking for another partner... so we have our answer ^^

Post #1 updated, with Italian Nats we'll see more likely Righini/Rizzo and Kostner/Rodeghiero (Russo :sad21:)

I wonder what happened? Maybe they split because their partnership was going nowhere... I was counting on some message since they had joint FB page.

Wait, Penny and Nick are going to compete? :jaw: How come after such long and serious injury Penny is going to skate? I'm so afraid the pressure of performing well will screw her recovery...

I've read some weeks ago that Penny was already back on the ice, so probably she recovers good... Happy to see them in Ostrava!

But I'm surprised to see Fedyushchenko/Kitteridge as alternates, as Kitteridge is newly listed on IcePartnerSearch.
