2023 Skate Helena

The 2023 Skate Helena will take place Jan 18-22, 2023, in Belgrade, Serbia, at the Pionir Ice Hall. This international event will feature the singles discipline (Women and Men) at the Novice, Junior and Senior levels.

The competition will be conducted in accordance with the 2022 ISU Constitution and General Regulations, the 2022 Special Regulations and Technical Rules for Single Skating, as well as all relevant ISU Communications.

He won a Bronze Medal in Juniors at Nationals last season. But internationally, yes, this would be his first podium at Junior level. His best international Junior finish is 5th, which he has achieved a few times.

Day 1 of Skate Helena is starting now with a Chicks triple-bill. A group of 2 boys; followed by 15 Chicks II girls (2 groups, arranged 7/8); followed by 22 Chicks I girls (3 groups, arranged 7/7/8).

As the Time Schedule links are taking us to 404 error pages, I don't know when there will be gaps between segments. So, for the Chicks, I will do separate posts for each segment. And then see how it goes after that.

We stay with the Chicks, but move from the boys to a double-bill of girls (it's actually the start of a quadruple bill of girls, as two Cubs Ladies competitions follow). First up, the younger Chicks girls. 15 in total, arranged into a group of 7, followed by a group of 8.

Skater #2 was the first time I've seen somebody skating to "Beauty And The Beast" since Angela Lansbury died. It's a poignant song to start with, but it was all the more poignant hearing it now, knowing that she is no longer with us.

So glad I decided to watch this. Although her name didn't jump out at me when I looked at the start order, I remember watching Skater #11 earlier in the season, and loving the programme!!!

She was skating by "Mickey" by Toni Basil and, like Toni does in the video, she is wearing a cheerleader's uniform.

Really fun programme.

And her team-mate following her had a "Grease" programme.

The Turkish girls know how to bring out the fun!

I should point out that all three of the Turkish girls that I have been talking about for having fun programmes belong to the same club, OSC.

Awwwww. The first Bulgarian skater in this segment, Skater #5, is skating to the version of the "Flintstones" theme tune that was used in the 90's live-action film.



And she was even dressed up as... Fred?!

Well, it looked like Fred's clothes. But she had her hair done up the same way as Pebbles.
