True. But not all costumes have to be the norm. It was plain. Yes. But I love how it was "spiced up" for worlds.

Everyone has their own style.

But I don't think that the AC/DC program needs a glamorized outfit. Doesn't seem right. By that I mean the traditional outfits like the formal ones. It's a hard rock program so it doesn't need a dressy outfit. A ripped outfit, yeah. Fits better

Funnily enough I was about to suggest some rips would have helped. You are right in that with that song you have to be careful, if you go glam, you probably want to go full on over the top pushing Johnny Weir's limits glamorous. But I do think there are options between glam and what was done, even the sparks for worlds were an improvement.

It was still attractive, but when you compare it to the other outfits, it is hard not to look at it and think it was a bit easier. To be honest I am really torn on this issue. As you said not all costumes have to be the norm, I agree 100%, I do want skaters to skate to what they are comfortable with and what suites both their style and the music and simple has its place. This one though, well as much as overly glam would not work for that song, overly clean cut and professional does not exactly work either, he looked a little too much like someone you could bring home to meet conservative parents. The shirt from worlds and some ripped pants, even jeans, might have been an over all better fit. I like the outfit enough to say that I don't think it was bad or worst, just objectively could have been more/better, it looked more professional than performance I guess. I am looking forward to this season's 2.0 version.

BEST - Yuna Kim - all of her costumes (and makeup) are ON POINT. They could easily be altered into into cocktail dresses and worn out in normal settings (ex: Vancouver LP). Kim avoids the the gaudy, sequined, frill-frou, tacky mess that is the standard for figure skaters. Her Sochi LP dress made her look very regal, and regal isn't a word I normally associate with figure skating outfits.

WORST - Miki Ando - many of her outfits are completely inappropriate and make her look like an call girl in a Mardi Gras parade. Examples:

- Cleopatra: http://waytofamous.com/images/miki-ando-03.jpg]
- Cleopatra 2: http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Miki+Ando+Figure+Skating+Day+14+uZM9Hu4PXhfl.jpg
- Punk Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman: https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2771/4167609203_39c2c19c16.jpg
- BDSM x Spiderweb: http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/ISU+Grand+Prix+Figure+Skating+Final+Day+4+dAB75VUi-5wl.jpg
- A tiger (?): http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rUDERYMBt.../fMKKSRRvBBw/s1600/ando+fs(JPN.nats.)2-ap.jpg

Oh dear lord, Miki...

I am excited myself to see what the 2.0 version of this program will be like. I'm trying not to say that I liked it cause of attractiveness cause I'll sound like a fake fan of Kevin if I do (And I'm a true fan). Yeah. I hope this season's outfit for it will be a little "edgy." Like more ripped.

I couldn't help but giggle when you said "he looked a little too much like someone you could bring home to meet conservative parents." Just saying.

I loved this dress of Akiko's: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PsjNzUtN6...Figure+Skating+Championships+YEWziDv_tNax.jpg

One of the worst costumes I recall was Denkova and Staviski's in 2003. I don't care if you're supposed to be Cleopatra or Eve in the garden of Eden; you should not have a snake wrapped around your head. I couldn't find a still of this monstrosity, but here's a link to a video. You can get the full effect as they take their positions around the 20 to 28 seconds marks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIWFLvYlie8

There have been 2 threads about costumes already. Some one should try looking for them, not opening too many threads.

Best: Yuna's outfit since 08-09 season till the end. Before that some were so-so, some were bad, so nevermind.

This list is great, I love all her show's dress too.

http://www.bustle.com/articles/3856...efully-convince-her-to-come-out-of-retirement

Just only remove SITC dress then add Gershwin in. I like SITC but definitely not the best. It's funny though, at first many many people HATE that dress, even Koreans made a big fuss and criticized a poor designer, but after that they all were drooling over it, lol

Beautiful: I like most of Mao's competition dress, minus season 09-10.

I like Chan's too, his costumes are always simple. For men simple is the best

Bad: Hanyu's feminine costumes. Frankly I can't even watch his skating just because his super girly shirt.
This is okay: http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Yuzuru+Hanyu+Skate+Canada+Day+1+NUhXW1yTOwhl.jpg
This is a BIG NO for men: http://static5.businessinsider.com/image/52fe7649ecad04c972063b8b-800-/469386837.jpg

But two threads aren't enough to contain all the ghastly costumes skaters have inflicted on the long-suffering public.

I mean the story of good and bad costumes is not something new. Should have compiled into one thread only. I have seen so many threads about costumes and it's distracting.

^^^

Not to mention the amount of snark we can generate when we all start yakking about them... :slink:

FWIW, I actually went back to look for the earlier costume threads; couldn't find them, either.

Now hold on there, birthday girl. After all, you're the one whose tag line says "Hate fake smiles and horrendous costumes!"

 it's my curse that my favorites always end up in something truly horrendous. First Urmanov and his swan disaster. Second Kulik and his spider and giraffe costumes (I have just known that the giraffe was actually a high profile young man going home while drunk). Third Yagudin and his Banana malfunction. Forth Lambiel and his zebra 4 colors, and now it's Yuzuru. :bang:
Plushy has had some wardrobe malfunction, too. :scowl:

Check out this little number from Katarina's exhibition @ the 1987 Worlds:

The color, the headpiece, the feathers...what was she thinking?

On the "best" side, I'd agree that Michelle's "Lyra Angelica" costume is one of the prettiest ever. I loved the color and the dress itself is simple, uncluttered, and completely elegant.

Also, Yuna looked marvelous in her LP dress in Sochi!

Mao Asada, this thing was ugly http://skatingfugly.tumblr.com/post/19633997826/i-love-mao-and-shes-one-of-my-favorite-skaters

And as this tumblr pointed out she seems to have a problem with the uper part of her body, she always paste something ugly there http://skatingfugly.tumblr.com/post/66679715641/is-it-just-me-or-does-mao-asada-constantly-have

It's interesting because some of them that you posted are my favorites.
especially the pink & black striped one(I think it’s one of the coolest costumes I ever saw) , white swan and red the upper with black skirt.
although I am a kind of person who thinks that most her costumes suited her beautifully and Ladies generally have good taste in costumes.
there is not even that I thought somebody in particular to be ugly among the ladies.

Here is some of her bests

Khoklova and Novitski had some memorable costumes; whether you view them as good or bad is in your eyes ;)

This one takes the cake though. Jana wearing a lettuce skirt with yellow biscuits peeping out of her bodice

As does the first one on this page
