HOLY COW!

Joannie Rochette knocks 'em dead with a FANTASTIC SKATE! She takes the lead from VV by 1 PT! Also, read over on another board she landed 6 triples in total, one of them a 3T/3T combo.; whereas VV landed 6 solo triples. Any way you deal it, they BOTH skated great tonight -- my hat goes off to them (no lie)! :agree:

EDITED TO ADD: VV still holds strong in 1st place OVERALL, but Joannie Rochette is holding strong onto 2nd.

I don't mean to be unkind, but there is just no excuse for an experienced skater like Angela to finish DEAD LAST in the freeskate. :sheesh:

Hmm...

Miki Ando lands 7 triples in total, including the 3Z/3R/2T, but comes in 4th place BOTH in the FS & OVERALL -- good for her for being a "fighter" and going for the 3/3/2 -- but I wonder if any of her jumps were downgraded, as well as GOE? Looks like. Because she landed 7 clean triples @ NHK and not only won the FS, but also scored a personal best of 119.46 pts. in the FS & 170.36 pts. overall. Whereas here she scored only 100.56 in the FS (despite landing 7 triples), and overall only 150.32. I don't know, I still think there is cheating when it comes to the judges, as well as the technical specialist. And I recall that Japan was originally against the COP, but not Canada, maybe this is payback time.... I just hope that the Japanese Skating Federation, as well as Miki and her coach, are watching & taking notes in order to maximize her points. Doesn't look good.

Night, Nadine

I agree RealtorGal. I feel so bad for Angela. We all know she can do triple jumps almost perfectly. Something is not right with this girl. I hate these meltdowns

I think that is quite an unfounded accusation. I think it's unfair to blame the judging in Miki's case. She simply isn't as good as those who have refined their presentation skills. Overall, she is being punished for this.

Frankly, in what I've seen of Miki, while an excellent jumper, she has little to no artistry. Her presentation is juniorish at best. There is no feeling, no emotion, no ANYTHING along those lines. Until she imbues her performances with those characteristics, she will continue to find herself in 4th place behind those with much better presentation skills.

I really feel iffy about those huge differences between Irina's PCS and those of Vika and Joannie's, ESPEICALLY when both of them sounded like were totally ON. Guess I will have to see their programs to know what's going on.

poor Miki.
I think that Ando does not have a much problem in presentation skills. but a problem is choreography and music. choreography of Lee Ann Miller does not help her at all.
I hope to change choreography as soon as possible

This is really tough to read about Angela. I thought this year would be the one.

Looking forward to seeing Ketunnen on TV and compare with Susanna.

Apparently Vikka has improved and maybe will keep it all together for the next competitions.

I'm not surprised at Joannie. She is definitely Canada's best and will be a contender in Moscow.

Of course she's back. I predicted gold for her at this year's Worlds in her home town. Despite all the bad news about her health, she's going to be the top contender.

IIRC Canada wrote the CoP. Japan was not only against the CoP at first, but they were the most enthusiastic supporters of the World Skating Federation. Still, they didn't hold that against either Shizuka or Miki at Worlds last year.

Reserving judgement...

...til I actually get to see something. But I have a hard time believing Miki is being "held down" for any reason. She is a talented jumper, but based on her other performances this season, has a LONG way to go with the rest of her skating. I can easily see a 5 or 6 triple performance that is more complete beating her 7 triple performance. That's one of the things I love about COP - it really does take the sport away from being just a jumping contest.

I just watched NHK news.
I say that Miki's 3-3-2 is clean!
yes,sp' one was cheated. but FP's 3-3 is clean

Probably, the referee was a presbyopia.

Angelar is a beautiful skater with solid technique, but she has never been a tough competitior. I feel so bad for her, hope she can get some help...

hate it

If we reduce the Jumps then it is not a sport, but a show. I don't see how MIKI's triples could be so easily ignored. Her presentation is not the best but neithers is Irina. I love Irina but her body line is horrible. This is what confuses the regular spectator about figure skating. Everyone can count the number of jumps and pick a winner, but no one can decided what is artistic. NOw for Angela, what a shame she is just not mentally tough. No matter how great she trains her programs in practice it will never mean anything unless she learns how to kick buttocks. She is her only competitor and she can't seem to beat herself.
