I’m with demarinis in looking forward to the likely prospect of him doing the GP (and maybe 4CC or Worlds?) next season. Hopefully he’ll be spared further injuries.

If Dai is chosen for Worlds, he will gain enough points and PB and get 2 spots in GPS next season. If he is not, he will get a senior B at best and will not get enough points or PB, which means he will not get a GPS next season.

I'm skeptical that he will be chosen for Worlds even if he finishes after Shoma, though. The criteria for the third spot is very ambiguous, and basically JSF can pick anyone they want, and their priority is on young skaters. I don't think they will give the host spot at NHK Trophy to Dai next season either.

Dai made it clear that he was aiming for domestic competitions and Nationals only, and did not want to “take the spot of younger skaters” (as he said) for international competitions. Plus, JSF takes into account world rankings and international results during the current season for the World and 4CC teams (plus minimum TES). It has been that way for years. So he won’t be selected this season. However, if he places well, I agree that he could get spot(s) for other international competitions taking places between Jan-March, especially since he expressed interest into doing int’ competitions again.
I’m 100% sure it won’t be an issue to him, tho. Since he gained motivation after watching NHK, if it stays that way after Nationals, he could gain a lot from those competitions, and which will give him chances at gaining a GP spot for next season.
Best thing to do is wait until Nationals so that he can further talk about his motivations and wishes. :)

Edit: by the way, can anyone translate what this campaign is about? On his IG: https://www.instagram.com/p/BqcBXR3HYGr/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1qqj9anai3s06

If I counted correctly, Dai has been gracing 11 magazine covers so far this season and has had extended articles dedicated to him in every renowned Japanese fs publication (+ a couple of international ones too). German magazine "Pirouette" is going to report on his comeback in their December issue:

Sena Miyake, who is going to skate at senior Nationals due to placing 6th at junior Nats is looking forward to compete with his idol and training mate: https://twitter.com/moco0611chi/status/1069534342525812741

Unfortunately Moa Iwano, who was hoping to attend Nationals with her senpai as well, just missed the cut by placing 7th. Fingers crossed her dream will come true next year!

A short feature aired on "News 23" yesterday:

https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6yaaqi

It includes footage of Dai practicing 4Ts. During filming none were rotated, but it seems he has gotten over his fear! Although I don't think it's specified when the footage was shot, so the recent state of his progress is unknown. Dai's answer about Yuzu and Shoma suggests it must have been before Western Sectionals/Rostelecom Cup. (Someone please correct me, if I'm wrong!)

Thank you for translating the most vital bits on twitter, iguana! :agree:

This made my day:

It's been a long road, but I can finally say I've fallen in love with skating.

I wish for him to make the Nats podium so badly. I need to see more of the uncontained joy he displayed upon winning Western Sectionals!

Go Dai-chan! We believe in you! :cheer2:

Edit

For the first time since its revival in 2014, Dai won't be lead starring in "Christmas on Ice", because of the show's proximity to Nationals. To make up for his absence he is going to provide the pre-recorded narration. (Is he also gonna sing again? ;)) The limited edition pale green D1sk banners will be available at the merch stand. The cast includes Stephane Lambiel, Shizuka Arakawa, Kanako Murakami, Akiko Suzuki, Ilia Kulik, Tanith Belbin/Ben Agosto, Meryl Davis/Charlie White, Kaitlyn Weaver/Andrew Poje, Elladj Balde, Tatiana Volosozhar/Maxim Trankov.

Thanks a lot for the updates! ^^/ :thank:

Sad for Moa still;;;; but so nice at least for Sena that he can compete with his idol at the Nats. :)

Have you seen this video clip before, synesthesia? ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XhldTId39Q This was originally aired in February 2014, but at 0:57 very cute 8/9 yo Sena appears in the NHK video on Daisuke aired back in 2010. :) And around 3:14, we will find little Sena, Koshiro Shimada and Yuto Kishina, who btw all are from Okayama same as Dai, on the local comp's podium. :)

Re Moa's free program: it reminds me of Ocean Waves by George Winston which was choreo'd by Pasquale. In 2008-09 season, Dai and Pasquale worked together for the first time (after the split with Nikolai) and made two free programs; one was La strada, of course, which was at the request of Utako sensei, the other was Ocean Waves which was Pasquale's choice of the music for Dai but it was never skated at all at competitions due to knee injury;;; Then, upon his comback in Vancouver Oly season, his team decided to use La Strada free over OW. The next season Alissa Czisny picked it up, asked Pasquale to choreograph for her free and won GP Final: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFwovnx04o0 As of today I so wish Dai would have skated it at a competition or even an ice show. Should have been an amazingly transparent, lyrical, soft program. We can see some of movements in the making in this video, though no music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOKlEs9Ae_E

ETA Oh, the other program that's never skated thus I'd love to see is Grieg's Perr Gynt SP for 2010-11 season https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rh8gMvzPw0 by Stephane Lambiel http://www.absoluteskating.com/index.php?cat=interviews&id=2010takahashilambiel. :luv17:

Sorry for taking so long to reply, deedee! Yes, I've seen the fluff about Sena before. :) It's great to know how many of the young guys (and girls!) Dai has and continues to inspire. Koshiro looks up to him as well. I'm not sure about Yuto. Do you know, if he has talked about his influences?

I'm very sad about Moa too. She shares so many of my favourite qualities with Dai, such as the outstanding musicality, superb attention to detail and great ss. :luv17: It's probably no coincidence that skaters with similar qualities find their way to Nagamitsu-sensei. And of course their innate talent is further nurtured by her. Imo Keiji is part of that club as well.

No complaints about picking La strada, which is a masterpiece in my book, but yes I agree, how I wish we could've seen Ocean Waves, even if "only" as an exhibition. I never knew Alissa had her FS choreographed by Pasquale to that very music! (Dai's Vancouver performances are what made me a dedicated fan of the men's discipline and I only followed the ladies rather casually back then.) What a lovely program and, wow, her spins are magnificent! Thanks for making me aware! Did Pasquale ever reveal, if he reused some of his original ideas for her program?

Ahh, Dai's long-hair phase before I started following his career plus a couple of glimpses of the amazing Ayaka Hosoda, who just landed three 3As at Western Sectionals!

I've been curious what Steph came up with all these years. I vaguely remember Dai admitting the choreography was too complex/demanding. Knowing him, he was probably selling himself short as always.

Short TV Promo on upcoming Nationals. So nice to see Dai with Team Japan. It is coming soon guys I am so excited to see his programs again.

I don' tknow tbh, but my guess is very likely. Pasquale said he picked up Ocean Wave in particular for Dai when he had an offer for a free program in the first place. He really wanted Dai to skate to it. But coaches, skaters, even their parents, almost all people around Pasquale at the rink did prefer La Strada over OW telling him 'oh it's a lovely program, I can watch his step sq all day!, Dai should skate it, blablabla...' Eventually Pasquale himself had to agree with it. ;) But Alissa, who was training under Yuka Sato/Jason at the same rink backe then, loved this program and its music for Dai, and decided to use it for her own free. :)

SP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWe-VDlsLqQ FS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55HPZFZdN1U

I haven't written my thoughts yet, here goes.
Nice to see other coaches and skaters were also by the board to watch his both performances, Yamato, Hamada-san, Taichi, Shu, etc. Marien De La Asuncion can be seen, too in this SP at 2:50.
I love new SP costume 10 times better than the old one. :) As for jump combo, he went too high? Must be the reason for a step-out.
Re step sq in Free, I'd prefer the old one at Kinki Regionals over this one, Kinki's was so cool tbh. Stsq levels were only 3 both in SP and Free? :scratch2:
Made my day indeed to see 3A-3T!!! When was the last time Dai could hit that combo! Wow. And the second 3A was simply a beauty. :luv17:
Nice job done, Daisuke to tack 2T on his second 3F! LOVE the moments around 3:52-4:10; Utako sensei patted, no, punched Takeshi's back to see Dai doing a recovery combo there. Then during his spin, she was stamping her feet as if wanting to help Dai spinning faster!

Can't believe the Nats is this week, can we?! :drama: Just thinking about it, hard to breathe evenly... :drama:

This is a 4-part documentary about Takahashi's career and his team through the 2012 Japanese Nationals, with English subtitles. It's the arc of his skating career to that point, and has many interviews with him, his team, on his travels, and during competitions. As I was away from following skating for a long time until early 2013, for me this was very interesting and moving! The first 3 segments are linked, I've posted the 4th separately. I apologize if this has already been posted--it was new to me & a search on this thread didn't find it.

First 3 of 4 15-min segments, linked together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2yh-8qWHGM

This commentary from Junior Nats says Yuto now trains with Ms. Hamada and Yamato at Kansai University's rink and he says the presence of Dai has influenced him in artistry. :)

In a recent TV program, Takeshi said everybody at the rink stops at the moment Dai's music starts because they don't want to miss his run-through.
