Is it bad that every time I'm reminded of this, I just burst into laughter? It's just so... absurd. I hope the actual product doesn't turn out to be boring, because I'm expecting a lot!

If Kovtun skates like he did last season, it'll be pretty boring. Lots of skating around looking vaguely lost...but I really hope he adds some artistic flourish. For better or for worse.

Tango & Flamenco is definitely one of my favorite of Plushy's SPs. Was that choreographed by Smekalov also?

I don't know who was the choreographer but not Smekalov. He choreographed only the Nijinsky.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGanRnHVNIs :D Two years ago I made a test in my school. I told in Goldenskate in that time. My colleague suddenly got ill and I was the substitute teacher. I had an idea : I showed them one of Chan's SPs and Plushy's Flamenco. Plushy won (of course. ;) ) the test of great benefit. 90%-10% if I right remember. Not was worse.
Look at that 3A!! Sandpiper we can put this your thread. This is among the best 3As.

Sandpiper I disagree with you. I like Plushy's Hava Nagila SP. He was 16 but watching Plushy is pure pleasure ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prB1kNhnGPI

Hava Nagila is fun. And yes, although I complain about Bolero, I think there are some good points to that program as well, and he does make it sexy. So just out of curiosity - if you guys had to choose your least favorite of his programs, which one would you choose? It seems like Sabre Dance is not very popular...I kind of get a kick out of it though, as the music reminds me of old Looney Tunes cartoons, and I like the costume. I think I'd pick the Jean-Michel Jarre medley. Not my kind of music, and that shirt...:disapp:

I least favorite Sabre dance and Bolero, mostly because of the costume, not because of the skating.

Wich costume? He had three costumes to MJ medley.;) For me the gold was the worst. But MJ wore similar costume in his tour.

I think my least favorite is the Sabre Dance. But I like his unstoppable energy and speed.

Have you seen these beautiful photos? http://www.absoluteskating.com/index.php?cat=photogallery&id=2014dreamsonice-2 What can I say? he looks great in that black costume.... my favorite is the first pic

and part of the article about Dreams on ice on Absolute Skating:http://www.absoluteskating.com/index.php?cat=articles&id=2014dreamsonice

"What can be said about Evgeni Plushenko, besides him already being a legend? I wondered as it didn't seem necessarily for him to even perform; as soon as he appeared on the ice it made the audience wild with excitement. Nevertheless, he skated to the famous Storm, where he jumped and did gorgeous and fast step sequences. He even tried a triple Axel and almost fully rotated and landed it. You would never believe he had surgery a few months ago. The whole audience was involved in the euphoria during his performance and after he finished they gave him one of the biggest standing ovations ever. Evgeny was asked about his injury by the reporters at the press conference. He replied he was doing better and can jump again, even do triple Axels. He will spend a lot of time resting but has some shows to do in China. He chose the Storm music because he feels it suits him and people like it. Evgeny will not compete this coming season because of a new project he's starting, but he would like to do another Olympic competition, his fifth, since he knows of no other athlete who has done that. The new project is a fairy tale family show starring great skaters and gymnast. He's financing the project which will premiere in Moscow in December."

I was thinking of this shirt

But the shiny silver Jarre costume was ok. And I have only just watched this for the first time today and I like this costume.

So those are fine, then come the poufy gold sleeves  And then my least favorite above. Are there any more Jarre costumes I missed?

Thank you for the link to the pictures!

My least favourite is definitely Sabre Dance, considering how I complain about it every other day. Mainly the costume and music (ear bleed!) rather than the skating itself. Second worst is probably Bolero, since I at least like parts of the Jean Michel Jarre Medley (mainly the first step sequence and how it fit the music). Seems like Gallavich and I have rather different tastes in costumes, since I find the silver Jarre costume the worst of the lot. I can deal with the whole maple leaf colouring he brought to Skate Canada. (Agree the black outfit wasn't bad though... darn it, we're back to black!)

Hmm, didn't Smekalov also choreograph Adagio?

Interesting to hear about the SP experiment. :p All I can say is... charisma! Blah, now I sound like Carruthers.

My favourite Once Upon a Time in America, 2001 GPF: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lpby0msa22Q I just love how he threw in the 4-3-2, and 3A looked like the easiest thing in the world. (Speaking of Carruthers, don't worry about his comments in the beginning. He completely changed his tune after Plushy finished skating).

I'm not saying Plushy's SPs pre-2003 were bad (except for Sabre Dance and Bolero). Just that, for me, even his worst post-2003 SP was just as good as his best pre-2003 SP. Though MJ Medley is growing on me, and Hava Nagila is quite intense. Maybe I'm changing my mind.

Oh, so this is why Plushy didn't wear this costume during Japan Open 2010! Mishin decided to try it on and... RIP beautiful black-and-gold outfit.

Chipi was banned yesterday thus I can't answer him/her. I hope he read this forum, this thread even if he can't write here.

from the Wikipedia

Kovtun 19 y.o.:

one time Russian champion

one time JGPF gold medalist

3 times JGP gold medalist

ECH: two times 5th place

WCH: 17th and 4th

GPF: 5th

two times GP silver medalist

Evgeni Plushenko:

Achievements

Evgeni Plushenko has won four Olympic medals, tying Gillis Grafström's record for most Olympic medals in figure skating. Plushenko is known for his longevity, dynamic performances, and technical advancement of the sport.[87][88]

Plushenko is the first male skater to perform the Biellmann spin in senior competitions.[4] At the 1999 NHK Trophy, he became the first skater to perform a 4T–3T–2Lo combination in competition. He has since landed the combination 26 times.[citation needed] Plushenko is also the first to land a 4T–3T–3Lo combination in competition.[89] He first landed the combination at the 2002 Cup of Russia and has since landed it four times.[citation needed] He is the first skater to complete the 3A-3F combination.[90]

Plushenko is also the first to perform a 3T–3T–3Lo–2Lo combination, which he first did at the 2001 ARD Gala.[91][citation needed] At the 2006 Russian Figure Skating Championships, he landed a six jump combination (3T–3T–2Lo–2Lo–2Lo–2Lo) in his exhibition program. He performed a 3A-3T-3Lo combination at the exhibition finale of the 2006 Olympics.[citation needed]

Plushenko has consistently landed 4T in competitions and landed a 4S in Samara, Russia during the 2004 Russian Cup series. It is estimated that he has landed a total of about 100 quads in competition.[citation needed]

Plushenko has worked on and landed 4Lo and 4Lz in practice, but has never completed any of them in competition. He has also worked on a 3A-4T combination.[citation needed]

At the age of 16, Plushenko became the youngest male skater to ever receive a perfect score of 6.0. He received a total of seventy five 6.0's before the new Code of Points judging system was introduced.[citation needed] Under the Code of Points system, he has set 13 world record scores (5 in the short program, 4 in free skating, and 4 in the combined total).

He landed perfect quad lutz in practice. He tried it on competition at COR 2001. But it wasn't succesful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yEvVzq_uyA this is the attempt.

Plushenko's results at 19:

4 times Russian champion
2 times European silver medalist
2 times European champion
1 time World champion
1 time World silver medalist
1 time Olympic silver medalist
1 time World bronze medalist
2 time GPF gold medalist
10 times GP gold medalist
1 time JWCH gold medalist

and so on..

^^^ I was in the middle of writing a reply to Chipi when that thread was locked. I was going to say that Plushy is working on the 4S now and once he comes back with that, in what other way will Kovtun be "more talented"? Not that I expected to get a rational response. ;)

Plushy landed in 4S in competition in 2004. But, yes, he was 22 not 18 or 19 as Kovtun. And yes he is working on it again, his attempts in 2012..

...What did I miss? Surely that was a parody account! I feel offended on behalf of such talentless, quad salchow-less skaters like Alexei Yagudin and Patrick Chan.

Not to mention the logic is bizarre. If Kovtun is hated for being Russian (which, granted, I think is true to some extent, though there's other reasons to dislike him), why compare him to a guy who is... also Russian? Wouldn't the other guy be equally hated, thus cancelling out any bias?

Not to mention Plushenko had his own unique skillset that Kovtun didn't have (4-3-2, 4-3-3, 3A-1/2Lo-3F, Biellmann spin/spiral... correct me if Kovtun has done any of these in competition, because I don't follow him extensively). Not all of those skills are rewarded in COP, but one could also argue that Plushenko didn't have the luxury of attempting an unstable quad salchow under fall-adverse 6.0. Plushenko: 5 innovations by the time he was nineteen. Kovtun: ...?

As for records, Plushyfan covered them already, but I'll just say: If Kovtun, at the end of his competitive career, can achieve what Plushenko already achieved at nineteen, hats off to him (eternally hatless me will wear a hat specially for the occasion).

I would add to PLushy's unique skillset: the first male skater who did donut spin.

I would say Kovtun is not favored not because he is Russian, but because his skating overall, being held up as Tat's favorite... And he is supported by people who disliked Plushenko (because Plushy has too many medals and won against their favorite I suppose).

That being a parody account would explain something, actually... though one cannot be sure! It was just so... extreme. In fact so extreme that I couldn't even manage to feel even a smidgeon of offence... it was just too amusing. :) And mindboggling. And then they go and get themselves banned... sigh. And I don't know what it is, but, always when someone has got banned, I've always missed the... well, "action" so to speak. And I'm left for evermore wondering what exactly happened? Sigh. Curiosity is my one weakness... (Note: I'm paraphrasing Dorcas Lane of the BBC series Lark Rise to Candleford - lots of things were her "one weakness"... ;) )

Oh, by the way, my latest obsession:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbttZVTSJRU

I just can't seem to stop listening to it...

I now want Plushy to skate to this so badly! :) He isn't still taking music suggestions, is he? ;)

But thinking of music led me to wondering... He's working on two programs though he isn't planning on competing (this season), if I recall correctly? I wonder if we will find out what they are?
