Here are my choices for Skate Canada:

Men
1- Hanyu
2-Chan
3-Oda
4-Abbott
5- Brezina
6-Miner

Ladies
1- Gold - no contest she will win both the short and the free by a long shot!
2- Suzuki
3- Lipnitskaia
4-Osmond
5-Hicks
6-Lacoste ( On the strength of her nice Free Program - even with a few errors she may be able to top a few with better jumps but not as detailed programs)

Have edited my Ladies picks since it seems Osmond is ready to skate from her pactrices. Just don't think she is in top form yet.

Pairs:

1- Meagan Duhamel & Eric Radford
2- Wenjing Sui & Cong Han
3- Stefania Berton & Ondrej Hotarek
4-Lindsay Davis & Rockne Brubaker
5-Paige Lawrence & Rudi Swiegers
6- Haven Denney & Brandon Frazier

Ice Dance Event
1. Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir (but their scores will be no where near as high as D/Ws in either portion)
2. Madison Hubbell & Zachary Donohue (will get some bonus PCS credit because of SA results)
3. Kaitlyn Weaver & Andre Poje (will lose some levels in the Free and drop behind H/D
4. Ekaterina Riazanova & Ilia Tkachenko
5. Alexandra Paul & Mitchell Islam
6 Alexandra STEPANOVA / Ivan BUKIN

Have a feeling Osmond will do the short and have problems with her jumps due to her injury and not be able to do the long.

Just so everyone knows, if Osmond WD's, even during the competition, all your picks will just be moved up one. If she finishes both programs, and skates poorly, a pick will count against you, but if anyone is not picking her because of concern that she will WD (not a concern she will skate poorly), that should not be a consideration. Just make sure you have an alternate.

Sackie in your case I understand/think that you think she will skate poorly and that is why you are not picking her, but I wanted to make absolutely clear for anyone else.

Basically yes - I think she will be about 5th to 7th in the short after not being able to complete all her jumps and will pull out realising she is not ready to compete.

Thank you! I knew I was missing something.
Skate Canada looks even more unpredictable than SA. I already have a winner choice in Men that I've seen nobody has until now. Well, I'll give it just one more thought even though I don't like changing my mind. My first picks are always the better.

After Skate America, I ended up joint 41st overall, out of the 49 that put in guesses for all 4 categories. I am actually happy with that, because I thought I would end up bottom!!!

Of course, it was embarrassing to get the lowest score in the Men’s category.:

What went wrong for me? Well, to cut a long story short I had too much faith in my favourite Men’s team (Team Japan) and not enough faith in the home team (Team USA). To further compound matters, I got the order within these teams so wrong! I was expecting Machida to be the bottom Japanese… he was the top. I was expecting Brown to be the top American… he was the bottom.

And part of that could have been avoided if I had done some research. I admit, when I saw the entries, I couldn’t remember who Max Aaron was! But, I never bothered to look him up. Then, when he came on the ice, I realised who he was and went “Oh, drat!” If I had realised it was that guy, I would have put him above Gachinski for sure!

Incidentally, I wasn’t expecting Gachinski to come as high as the 5th I put him at. But, I decided to give him one last chance to impress me before I gave up all hope on him. Suffice to say, he's not getting any more chances.

Let’s be honest, nobody could have predicted those results for the Men’s! So, out of curiosity, I copied the spreadsheet into Excel on my computer, and added an extra column, which subtracted the men’s column from the total column. And when I ordered the table by that column, the results were very interesting.

Firstly, on a personal note, I would have been joint 14th on 175 points without the Men! :yay:

The interesting thing about the game is that the top 2 players overall (Blades of Passion and merrywidow) would still have been the top 2 if we took the Men out, except they would have been level on 210 points. And the 4th and 5th places (elif and zamboni step) would each have moved up a place to 3rd and 4th.

So the big winner from the Men’s competition was GF2445, who was 3rd overall with the Men, but would have been 9th without them! (Incidentally, like GF2445, nipman also got 45 points from the Men but, unlike GF2445, nipman was let down by the Ladies)

Interestingly, it was still Blades of Passion that got the highest score from the Men’s competition (55 points). So, if they keep up getting a lot of points from not only the predictable competitions but the unpredictable ones as well, then it’s going to be hard for the rest of us to catch up!

But that’s the beauty of this game. One strange competition can turn the whole thing on it’s head! So, I’m going to continue!
