I need to preface this by saying i know nothing abt Risport boots so i really need some help.

I went to get fitted today and my fitter tried to sell me the Risport Royal Pros, we didn’t try the RF3 Pros nor any other brand he just went straight for the Royal Pros. I went in asking to try the Jackson Premiere and I told him i’m still working on the lutz and haven’t even started on the axel, I also said that i want boots that will last me into my doubles but I have no idea if the Royal Pros are good for my current level since i’ve read theyre mostly for doubles/triples. They were 750AUD and he was very adamant on me buying them from him while i’ve also found the same pair on skatersedge for 490AUD.

I think i should also note that a year ago he sold me my current boots, Jackson Elles (claiming that they would last me till doubles) but they were a size bigger than what they should’ve been.

There are only two fitters in Melbourne one is the guy i went to and the other specialises in Ripsort.

He did also get me to try the edea chorus after i brought up the brand (he sells them for 490AUD) but they were not as good of a fit and he told me multiple times he thinks the Risport are better suited to my foot. The fit felt really good but are the Royal Pros good for my level or was he trying to make extra profit?
I might be overthinking this but the way he was so adamant on me buying from him scared me a bit lmao. I told him i’ll speak to my mum since she’s paying and let him know.

I'm sure @karne can help you with finding a reputable fitter that you can trust.

But just giving my piece of cake here,
I would never go back to a fitter who sold me Elles claiming that they last till doubles AND fitting me in a size too big.
If you are scared buying from him (and right so), then please don't buy those boots!

OP: Absolutely agree with the above. Never buy from a guy who tries to bully you into a purchase (remember that when you're old enough to buy a car!). And never go back to someone who messed up so egregiously before.

Yeah completely agree, definitely not buying from him. I’m going to just block his number and ghost him, it was such an uncomfortable encounter.

Thanks for the tip!! I felt bad but you and Friday made me see a bit more clearly now and definetly not going back haha. Like i said before, there’s not many fitters in my city but i’m going to go see the one who specialises in Risport and make a decision from there i guess.

As you go through life, unfortunately you'll run into sales staff who employ bully tactics. I'm in the US, I've come across this usually with car sales and mattress sales (and in the past, camera sales) ["What, I've spent all this time helping you, and you're not going to buy from me? What kind of a person are you??!! What's wrong with you??!!"] Walk out the door, real fast. Good luck with the other guy!

I’m fairly sure I know who you went to, I went there a couple of months ago and he really creeped me out. I walked away without even trying anything, as he was putting so much pressure and the vibes in the ‘store’ were so weird. I was curious to try other brands I had never tried just out of interest but he said that would cost $60. He wouldn’t let me leave, just kept following me and keeping on trying to say ‘we’ll make something work’ all the way to the street. Ended up just buying from skatersedge, who I have purchased from in the past when I lived in nz. They have their own issues too but are getting better and are usually better to deal with than most of the Australian stores.

Yep, we definitely went to the same person. It’s such a shame that for such a big city he’s virtually our only option…
Can you talk a bit more on what you think is wrong with skatersedge?? I’m fairly new with the store so i haven’t had much time to interact with them.

They are a fairly new company compared to many around the world who have been in business for decades, and still learning (they’re young also). At one point in nz they were selling eclipse blades to everyone and telling them they were better than mk/jw and that you could not feel any difference. I know many people who were unhappy with the eclipse blades, and ended up going back to their old ones. Those blades are also LOUD.

When they first opened their store they only sold edea and told everyone edea would fit anyone. Obviously that isn’t true. I just got lucky that they were right for my foot. I’m not sure if they get too much stock or good deals with certain brands, but they’ll randomly just push some products super hard. In saying that, they have a very good range compared to stores in far bigger markets and have done a great job at marketing themselves. They have a really good variety of brands and great shipping, and I think as long as you do your own research and know somewhat what you want and what is suitable for you, you’ll be fine with them.

You've been given good advice. If you weren't comfortable with the person and have already been sold boots that didn't work, then go elsewhere.
Interestingly I did see something similar happen in a skate store I used to use. With the shortage of skates in some areas the store I went to was telling people they needed a certain model but it wasn't in stock, so selling them a higher level boot in the same range. To be fair the people really wanted to buy, but were definitely being overbooted.

I think this is a huge issue all over right now because of supplies. People are desperate to get boots or blades and buying ones that aren’t quite right because of what is currently available. 😬
