Konstantin Menshov (Russian: Константин Александрович Меньшов) born 23 February 1983, in Leningrad, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union, is a Russian figure skater. He is the 2014 European bronze medalist, a two-time (2010, 2012) Nebelhorn Trophy silver medalist, a two-time (2007, 2012) NRW Trophy champion, and the 2011 Russian national champion. Menshov is one of the few skaters to have landed two quad jumps in a short program.

Between Sergei Voronov, Evgeni Plushenko, and Konstantin, 2015-16 may be the year of the Russian Silver Foxes. :cheer: Konstantin turned 32 on February 23, and like his fellow 32-year-old Plushy, he's still not ready to retire.

Menshov has a certain character and charisma that I've always liked.
That, and his HUGE jumps :-D

I also admire him for remaining competitive at his age, his unusual choices of music, and the messages he tries to send through his skating.

I actually thought of making this thread when I saw that Orphaned Fan Fest post, but you beat me to it Gallavich. :biggrin:

Anyway, fun fact, Menshov is tiny! I was rather curious after seeing the childhood photo of him and Plushy, wondering if some time after it he had a growth spurt, but nope! According to his ISU biography he's 165cm or 5ft 5!

Here's to a great 2015-2016 season, Old Man Menshov! :D

Great minds, etc. ;)

Maybe Konstantin is on the smaller side because he is a twin? I suppose there could be other factors, but I have read that twins tend to run a little smaller than non-twins (within the same family, that is).

Heh, to be honest I hesitated because the only thing I could think to write was about his height and the fact that while watching Plushy's old programs on YouTube I managed to recognise his name (it was in Cyrillic so I was proud of myself!) way down the list at the 2003 Russian Nats, which I thought simply wouldn't do for the first post of a fan thread! :laugh2:

Yes, I wonder if his twin is taller than him...but it is nice to hear a skater described as short who actually is short - at least to me (I'm 163cm).

I can't speak or read a word of Russian - but I recognise the main skaters' names in Cyrillic too :p

Kostya is only like 5'4" ;) He's not that tall at all.

Thanks for setting up this thread, gallavich. You're certainly not the only one who likes Menshov. Over the last years I became quite fond of him, watching him skate, reading his interviews. His very thoughtful. I admit, in his younger years I didn't like his programs.

I hope he gets a second GP assignment this year.

BTW: Does anybody know if he will do Nebelhorn Trophy?

He got Skate America and NHK! :)

Not sure which of the senior Bs he will do, but he has done Nebelhorn several times, so the odds are pretty good.

At 32, I was afraid Menshov would announce his retirement.
But here he is for another season, two GP places! I am greatly pleased!
