It is the Golden Waltz.Which compulsory dance will it be at the Olympics? Which team has a strong history with this dance?
Skating Skills
Ice coverage without visible pushing; cleanness and sureness of steps; strongly curved
well rounded lobes; lobe to lobe transitions well controlled; controlled body weight
changes; light knee action; clean, tight, crisp footwork.
Performance
Perfect vertical and horizontal unison; good carriage and style; controlled body action;
nicely matched free legs; balance in performance between partners.
Interpretation
Expression of the typical changes between the soft and strong character of the rhythm,
relationship between partners reflecting the lyrical mood of this Tango. Well-defined
and strong edges should be skated with a lot of character using good knee action, tight,
clean footwork with matching free leg movements. For good presentation and
interpretation the body style and movements should reflect Tango rhythm.
Timing
Very precise and crisp timing, exact beat value for each step, sometimes syncopated to
bring out the Tango character.
For example, in Tango, we have the "and-moment", when we suspend before surging. The engagement with our partner (both leader & follower) comes ahead of the first beat of the music. Musically, the bandoneon starts wheezing before the musician stomps his leg to punctuate the "1". If tango didn't have this suspension and surge, it feels flat.

The ice dance technical panel is Marika Humphreys-Baranova (GBR), Francesca Fermi (ITA), and Katalin Alpern (controller, ISR). Halina Gordon Poltorak is the referee.
Check this out. Elena Tchaikovskaya is visiting with D/W and V/M this week before the start of the games to help them with the CD (which she of course designed along with Pahkamova and Gorshkov).

This is really exciting news!
Elena Tchaikovskaya is a Russian Coach who I have a lot of respect for. She did great work for teams like Drobiasko & Vanagas. I love how Maria Butyrskaya talked about her at the 98 Games as a "strong woman". I think it is fantastic that she is helping out two great American couples with the intention of having them perform their best in the compulsory dance!
