She is too thin, but arguably one of the great Japanese perseverance brings success stories. To think she was 16 and at Nagano, and I never noticed her if they even showed her on American TV. And I think the most beautiful Japanese skater, so I wonder what will her dress be like? Traditional? I love Josh! Wow, she has had some great times as a famous woman. I always wondered, did she date Morozov? many of his skaters seemed to. Shaelynn married him, Miki apparently escaped.

beautiful bride, Yugao really is my favorite skate from her as a pro.

Her dress might be like this one she modeled a few years ago

I wonder if Shizuka models? For her race, she is quite tall. I wonder if she is as loved as mao in Japan? I watched her LP in Torino...clean but so cautious. What a "cool beauty" she is. She makes me hope Akiko could win gold.

I love Shizuka and was so thrilled when she won the gold in Torino, but I didn't particularly care for her skate there.

Her 2004 Worlds FS was her ultimate performance and to me it is still one of the greatest ladies FS of all times.

I've often wondered how Shizuka is perceived and treated in Japan. Is she as revered as Midori or Mao? Is she a huge celebrity? She certainly deserves to be.

I recall that the prime minister personally called to congratulate her. She was the only Japanese athlete to win any medal at Turin, nevermind being the first Japanese Olympic figure skating champion. So she was pretty much a national hero. I remember reading than her celebrity status was so crazy that she couldn't even go home for sometime afterwards. Turandot became wildly popular and people were even copying her earrings. I'm also interested in how her status compares to Mao nowadays.

Thanks! I had forgotten that she was the only Japanese medal winner at Turin. It must have been pandemonium for her back then! I am just old enough to remember the fuss about Peggy Fleming, who (if I recall) was the only gold medal winner for the U.S. at Grenoble. Everyone her knew who she was after that, even if they couldn't tell ice skating apart from roller skating.

automatic web translation seems partly work. It says Shizuka met her partner through a person who knew their mothers suggested to have them meet. He was very busy person and did not have time to watch TV. Though he knew that Shizuka got Olympic medal but did not actually know her face. Though he could search internet in advance, he did not because it would not be fair and he'd rather see her in person and find out instead of using internet, and let her know about him too.
Shizuka is trying wedding dresses so the this interview was good opportunity she could try verious type of dresses. She is looking for her wedding dress in the same way she she makes ice show costumes: think about harmony in the stage for total effect, if wedding happen near the sea the dress should suite that venue.
She hopes she could support her husband as much as he supports her.

Thank you, Shizuka is so pretty and elegant. Wonder if this pictures were taken before the pregnancy.

I love love stories, thank you for sharing. It would appear that Shizuka meeting and then marrying her husband is a case of mothers knowing best. :)

Lovely story. Match-making seems to be back every where. I just read a few articles that even in Thailand youngsters tends to be more accepted the idea than the past decades. Sometimes old traditions seem to be back when they last expected.

Wish both of them all the happiness and Shizuka having a healthy pregnancy.

The article says the pictures were taken just a month before she had found out her pregnancy.
I really hope her having a healthy pregnancy.
She was so thin when I saw her last month at SOI, in fact, she was the skinniest skater in that show:eek:

Vogue Japan has her video, too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IZpdjK5DLc

Shizuka is gorgeous, especially in those wedding dress photos. I have noticed that she has become very thin in recent years.

Obviously it varies for each woman, but a lot of women lose weight in the first trimester. I did. Partly because pregnancy can increase your metabolism, partly because morning sickness is at its worst in the first trimester usually. I had trouble keeping anything down. Luckily I was still able to get my nutrients via smoothies for the most part. They had to carefully monitor my weight because I had such severe morning sickness. Again luckily my weight loss stayed within an acceptable range...
