My all-time favorite of the Paso Doble CD is Domnina and Shabalin's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRQe2HCiZHQ

I'm always amazed at their ice coverage and matching leg extensions. So sad to think about how their career ended.

For this season, I particularly liked the Paso Doble interpretations of the Shibs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhpDlIvkj2Y , Papadakis and Cizeron https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M05loLp_t9I , and the lesser known Danish team Beaudry and Sorenson http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x280070_fournier-beaudry-sorenson-den_sport .

I'm talking more about the interpretation of the Paso Doble pattern rather than the programs as a whole.

Thanks for the videos Doris and GS members :)

Domnina/Shabalin were fantastic .Shame about his knees.Watching this shows how poor some of the current teams are nowhere near this good in the CD section. My choice is Papadakis/Cizeron .
How I miss CDS and the old ISU music.

The ISU just constantly finds ways to make skating far less popular. They eliminated CDs so ice dance would be "less boring" or for whatever reason. I don't really like it that they shove the CD pattern into SDs which should have the same freedom of interpretation and choreography as it once had. The pattern just looks so out of place and unrelated in programs.

I don't think it would hurt to have 3 events - CDs, SDs, and FDs for ice dance.

And then after 2010, they made sure to eliminate moves that D&W, V&M, D&S, etc. made by imposing stupid rules which basically wipe out creativity.

CoC was the first time I'd ever watched Papadakis/Cizeron, and their SD really was impressive! :agree: I'll definitely be watching them closely this season.

Gabriella and Guilamme have a brilliant interpretation, quite original and their SD is very fluent, I love it. I like also a version of Weaver/Poje, full of fire and indeed nice to watch.

As impressive as P&C have been, there is room to improve. Their lines can be more well-matched and extended. I think COP really ruined body lines with excessive demands on convoluted choreography. Their choreography can be more coherent and dramatic in sculpture-like imagery.

W&P are always like well-dressed movie stars with understated and subtle choreography that slowly grows on you. But I still think the depth of this field requires more "WOW" choreography.

Interpretation? Hurtado/Diaz, no question for me here.

But technically they're not the best.

Sure, but they are still only young pair, for the first time highly scored. Their lines improve very much from the previous seasons as well as their edges and balance. Their SD is a little bit different than another ones, focused and really passionate, but not in a tacky way. And they have a gorgeous lift
Weaver and Poje really are like movie stars, their SD is totally classical, a very classical classic I would say :), it's not very original. Yet it's enjoyable to watch, not boring at all, I think they try to make their look more stable plus they always liked simple, conventional SDs - The Sound of Music, 42nd Street.

And I totally agree that it's hard to match D/S in terms of technique. They were masters of a compulsory dance :) I also think that lack of CD ruins the ice dance, sorry to say this...

Some great pasos from the past:

Torvill & Dean CD
Unfortunately, here they had to skate to one of the least paso sounding tracks on the ISU CD.
But how close together they skated this! And in each repetion, the tracks overlay each other almost as close as school figures.

Torvill & Dean Paso OSP
I just love this! It is one of my favorite skating vids to replay!

Bestemianova & Bukin CD - Not as precise, but what attitude!

I have a soft spot for Blumberg & Siebert's interpretation of the paso CD, too.

Klimova & Ponomarenko 1992 Paso CD. beautiful interpretation, but not fierce enough for.my taste
http://m.youtube.com/index?&desktop_uri=/#/watch?v=WOUCBZT2R1E

Duchesnays 1992 Paso CD had the fierce down, even with the crap music
http://m.youtube.com/index?&desktop_uri=/#/watch?v=N-z-_ihVIcY

And who can forget Delobel & Schoenfelder's Pirate Paso from 2008?

And because I miss both teams so much:

Davis & White's best Paso Skate Canada 2008. Meryl fierce but playful, Charlie arrogant and cool.

Virtue & Moir's best paso Worlds 2009! Lovely edges and an amazing dress on Tessa.

When I click those links, the YT homepage opens, not videos. Does it also happen to other people?

I believe you should just remove the 'm.' before each youtube URL, after the http:// of each link - the '.m' preceeding the URL formats it for mobile, but it doesn't work on a desktop :)

Thank you. I did remove 'm', but unfortunately it didn't help.

Thanks Doris! I had seen most of those but it was nice to have the easy links to watch again! Torvill and Dean do my favorite Pasos as well :)

My second favorite Paso Doble of all-time is Virtue and Moir's - the leg extensions, deep edges, precision, the brilliant intro and ending, so uncanny. It's hard to believe a team can be this good.

I liked Meryl's aggression but happy-go-lucky Charlie juxtaposed it too much.

The precision of the 80s teams' Paso Doble is amazing. Barely any snow on the ice.

The brits for sure. They were best in show at cup of Russia and hope they'll get more mileage.

Virtue and Moir's Paso Doble CD was even more impressive considering Tessa was just coming back from surgery.
