At elementary school and junior high school, Yuzuru Hanyu went to his neighbourhood's, Nanakita (Izumi ward, Sendai), but it became increasingly difficult with his Figure Skating training schedule — let's not forget that he became Junior World Champion and Junior Grand Prix Final Gold Medallist at only 15, while other Junior World Champions are usually 17 or 18 (this while maintaining high grades, without cramming school by the way).
As there was a high school in Sendai, aimed at high level athletes, adapting to their schedules, Yuzuru Hanyu and his parents opted to register him there, furthermore SHizuka Arakawa, Olympic Gold Medallist in 2006, had studied there.
The Tohoku High School has erected a small monument to these two illustrious alumni:

No matter how noisy the naysayers, he is getting not just huge love of fans and general public but also utmost recognition from the worlds of elite sport experts, art (yes, art), science, commercial entertainment, professional musicians, dancers and ballet dancers, show producers - and now, from the high fashion business There is no one like him in this sport, not even comparable, really!

He's going so much beyond what used to be (and what is, apart from him) Figure Skating, even the best! Not only in technique and artistry (we could very well see it in his competitive career, in spite of the never seen proportions of "scoring discrepancies", but he's improved so much since, this while managing the stamina to do solo shows that must be so very much more taxing than competitions) but in show vision and realisation. Not to speak of his side, but related and by no way negligible (to get new public to the sport, and finances) modelling talent.

Oh, yes! I watched Saga Day 1 today and the door drama was a truly amusing and manga-like moment even though we already knew beforehand it would happen. And the impromptu Goliath performance is really something else! Awesome!!!
