2026 Junior Grand Prix Xi’an

The 2026 JGP Xi’an is the first of seven events in the 2026–27 ISU Junior Grand Prix (JGP) series and takes place August 20–22, 2026, in Xi’an, China. Top junior skaters from around the world will compete for points that determine qualification for the Junior Grand Prix Final in December 2026.

Through this pathway, the JGP helps develop emerging elite athletes, many of whom go on to compete at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the JGP, skaters must meet specific age requirements. In particular, competitors must be at least 13 years old before July 1 of the competition season. However, the upper age limit varies by discipline: single skaters must not have reached age 19, while ice dancers and female pair skaters may be up to 21, and male pair skaters up to 23.

In addition, national federations select competitors. The number of entries allocated to each ISU member in each discipline depends on results from the previous World Junior Figure Skating Championships. Furthermore, each skater or team may compete in a maximum of two JGP events per season.

About the JGP Xi’an

The JGP Xi’an is part of the ISU Junior Grand Prix series, which rotates between host cities each season. Notably, the 2026 edition marks the first time that Xi’an will host a Junior Grand Prix event.

China has hosted Junior Grand Prix events since 1998, with past competitions held in cities such as Harbin, Beijing, and Wuxi. As a result, the country continues to play an important role in the sport’s global development.
