2014 Cup of China Ladies Free Skate 11/08

I think one could make the argument for Kanako to be silver but the ones who think Edmunds should get bronze are beyond delusional.

Shame that Polina couldn't get a medal, she deserved one.
Juia - there's something in this girl that just enters my heart, you just have to love her, for some reason. her SP is great, but her LP is a hot mess right now. Didn't she use a very similar cut 2 or 3 years ago? I think she needs another music.

But on today's skate, should Polina be only 6 points better than Julia? I am not talking overall.

I'm so thrilled for Liz!!! Congrats.

Then, Yulia...I don't like her technique and even though some of her moves are impressive, I don't find them appealing at all. That said, even if she is not my favorite skater, I was really happy when I learned her FS would be to Mulan, then very disappointed when she decided to switch to R&J.
Admittedly, I enjoyed watching her implode here. I think it's better to bomb early in the season, rather than on more important competitions later. I still kinda hope she'll show Mulan (the music would help her to be on "attack" mode), but I guess they'll stick to R&J, or bring back The Schindler's List.

Poor Julia I hope she can make it together until TEB. I don't want to see her sad.

On the other hand, really big congratulations to Liza!! She is back to her glorious days. Everyone had written her off last season, but now she is better than ever. I prefer watching this Liza to her GP debut season.

Kanako wasn't clean either, for a moment I thought Polina would pass her overall too. So I don't get the complain about scoring. I love Kanako so much really, but her free is not as good as short.

I found Daleman's program not an age-appropriate one.

I hate calling people out since I don't like starting debates, but I don't think it's about haters/people hating per se, it's just that the scores do not reflect what the skaters have shown.

Exactly. Utterly perplexed at the JUDGING. Not hating.

Polina was in a different group. Has she been in this flight, I am certain the PCS would have been closer. Nobody cancelled reputation in this sport. This has been the case for a century now and did not start with Julia or Polina.

The scores do not reflect what the skaters have shown VERY often. But for some reason people here only screaming about it when certain skaters are beign overscored.
Some people saying Shibs were robbed today, now Polina deserved broze medal...

C u in Barcelona E-Li-Vi-Ta ! (her Eurosport name)

If Lips isn't back in shape for Bompard then i can see Ashley Wagner there too ;)

Not all skaters want/need the caring and maternal coach like Jason/Kori. Some need strict leaders.

Personally, I preferred the harsh/mean professors in my bio/chem/physics classes in college because I learned the best from them.

A coach should do what's best for his pupil in every situation. If the pupil is under a lot of stress and shows a lack of self-confidence, trying to help him relax is definitely better than shouting and threatening him and making it even worse.

Maybe she was just really nervous, but Julia's LP looked a little under-rehearsed.

That may be an understatement. I don't understand why they let her take off so much time. It was time to buck down and press forward. Her lutz was fine at the test skate so I'm not worried about that but she struggles with her Salchow. Today seemed to be compounded by nerves. I hope she can use this to grow and come back with a vengeance. TEB is so close....will she go? The goal was clear that she is focused on the later competitions but I don't think they realized how far behind they would fall.

Congrats to Liza...she looks so strong this year and its good to see a comeback like this.

What did she say to her?

I think the Shibs deseved no more than silver and Polina should at least have scored higher today. UR and all. It's debatable between her and Kanako but ultimely I think overall Kanako should get it (I had the impression her skate was worse than it actually was when wathcing live). I can understand that thnks to her SP Julia remained on the podium, i have a problem with her extremely generous PCS since she showed 0 connection with the program once the first fall happened. She was so off, her IT should have been below 5 today.

The commentators on British Eurosport said Polina Edwards

I always prefer British Eurosport rather than any other media, but they annoys me sometimes, because it seems they don't make any effort to remember skaters name correctly, nor they don't prepare anything before competition actually starts.

Though, I like the way they pronounce Daisuki Takahashi,
which sounds like "I love you, Talahashi", in Japanese.

Correct and I completely agree with you. :)

Unfortunately, we (or maybe just I) don't personally know Julia so we don't know the kind of coach she needs after these difficult skates. We can't just assume that she needs someone to smile and play it off because she's an adorable 16 year-old. Julia seems like a tough cookie from my observations of her previous competitions. And I'm sure that if she didn't connect with Eteri, she and her mom wouldn't hesitate to leave. Any other coach in the world would be glad to have her.
