2014 Cup of China Ladies Free Skate 11/08

What did she say to her?

I do not know, and I do not accuse Eteri of saying anything wrong. I was just pointing out a general rule. And it is my observation that Eteri shows signs of impatience when things are not going to her expectations.

Still supporting Yulia, maybe more so than ever...but wow...too generous (no other way to say it). It's good that she got that out early in the season...and it's obvious she was not connecting with this program AT ALL, the way she did with the SP. I think it's more because they put together the LP so haphazardly in such a short time than anything...but the cut is just not good (didn't like the weird silent moments). Still does not make this any less gut wrenching :(. Murakami definitely deserved silver, though her program was no masterpiece either...Elizaveta was inspiring to watch, as a side note. The contrast between where she was last year vs now...as compared with Yulia...is still quite shocking to say the least.

Ashley Wagner suddenly has a very good chance getting to Barcelona if she beats Julia in France?
I assume Radio will take that one easily. Julia's GPF slot is in a very serious danger.

I always prefer British Eurosport rather than any other media, but they annoys me sometimes, because it seems they don't make any effort to remember skaters name correctly, nor they don't prepare anything before competition actually starts.

Though, I like the way they pronounce Daisuki Takahashi,
which sounds like "I love you, Talahashi", in Japanese.

Thought I was the only one amused by their pronunciation of Dai's name

Golden Spin of Zagreb 2013.
Elizaveta was 3th.
No one cared about Elizaveta there.
Yuna took nearly all the attention plus a little bit for Miki.

Coming back in Russia female skating is so difficult.

Well done Elizaveta!

P:S:: To win the russian senior is more difficult than to win the european championship (now that Carolina is not there anymore).

Congratulations Elizaveta! She skated more better, and her programs are more interesting than Julia's. Julia's FS was so boring today and I'm not talking about the jumps.

Kanako should have won the silver, really bad judging!!! Congratulations to Liza for the gold medal, she was great! Has Yulia gotten not so good nerves anymore, along with her growth? Congratulations to Polina for being second in the freeskate!

Sadly but I have to agree. Although I think with clean skate the program will be killer.

Thanks for the links Kutien

Though many seem upset about the competition, I am pleasantly surprised by Liza's performance. I felt this wonderful sense of interest in watching her performance like it was a movie drawing me in slowly. Her jumps had wonderful height, symmetry and beauty and her arms had a wonderful flair on exit, reminding me of Slutskaya. Is she really on 18 years old? She seems incredibly mature in her delivery like she's 23 or 24.

Her musicality and wonderful plasticity in the step sequences really drew my attention in. She seems to be quite a good dancer with nice subtle, serpentine movements that reminded me of Arabian dance. I also thought of a snake charmer during the performance. The loose veiled clothing also conveyed a sense of mystery and intrigue that matched the movements. Her choice of music and presentation are really fresh and unique to me, and though she does lack flexibility in the spins her maturity and expression compensate for this in my opinion.

If we would watch back to back Polina and then Julia, in what universe is Polina's program only 6 points better overall? And 7 points LOWER on PCS than Julia?

I just watched Polina's on video and found her movements awkward. A big part may be due to her current body shape and the high centre of gravity so she looked like she might tip over. I kept wondering if it was video distortion and couldn't make a conclusion. She seemed slow too. Yes she landed her jumps. No, I would not have awarded her any high PCS today. And, she was in big SP deficit.

I was talking in comparison to Julia stricly on today skate not overall - so you agree with the PCS Julia got today? For example, on PE she got the second highest mark of 7.93, almost 8. How can this be explained?
I saw the competition on TV HD and Polina was not slow. And looking awkward (?) is not a PCS category. She was constantly moving, the program was quite busy, the only criticism was that she telegraphed a bit the jumps.

Just watched the LP of Julia and Liza. I think Julia took a huge risk with that jump layout. The timing of her 2nd 3F and the 3Lz were way too close. And Liza has the best strategy among the ladies right now by putting that 3T-3T to the second part of her LP. She does not have to hit the most difficult combination 3Lz-3T to win. I'm looking forward to the match Anna - Liza - Elena at the GPF.

That's putting it kindly. More like crawling at a turtle pace to each and every jumping pass.

If anybody beats Yulia in Paris it will be Elena Radionova.
I think people should hold their horses.
Nobody knows if this was one off skate or if she has general problems with jumps or sth (which I don't belive because apart from the Salchow she landed them in practice and training).
People should stop writing people off for one bad impression. If this continues like it does for say Garcie Gold, I can understand, but not already now.

Edit: Sorry, just realized that we both agree about Radionova, should have read your post more carefully regarding this part.

Well, she missed the take off of the 2nd triple flip after the spiral but tried to put it right afterwards, unsuccessfully. I think she'll be fine if she hits the 3 flip after the spiral. She does not seem to be able to land the lutz with great speed.

Which she landed. Something Julia failed to do today
I don't care for a short set up/out of the world transition before jump if you end up on your butt...

I did watch Julia and Polina back to back like you suggested. To my eyes, outside of jumps, they were in separate classes as far as PCS aspects are concerned. Busy does not make good skating or program to me. She was so vertical. I didn't notice good edges, fluidity, changes of direction and heights, smooth transitions, nice extension, hand and feet details, completion of movements, obvious musicality, etc. These qualities didn't register with me.

Aren't we being too fickle here? Yesterday everyone was crowing how Lipniskaia was unbeatable, a lock for Russian #1, and one bad skate later people are saying she's never had staying power due to her jumps, puberty is getting in her way, she's done for, etc. Come on guys.

And that's why Polina rightfully won by 14 point in TES. but you were talking about the second mark?
