2014 Cup of China Ladies Free Skate 11/08

The British commentators make lots of mistakes, I mean many… THey said one of the Chinese male skaters was from Canada (CHN and CAN for country perhaps) at this competition, they mentioned Skate America this year was Radionova's first junior season, and she won junior world title years ago…:scowl:
The commentators on British Eurosport said Polina Edwards

Yulia did not attend the medal ceremony?! THat was very naive. That's like a slap on the judges' face, who awarded her silver, but she does not agree. I could only image Plush would do that.

She is a 16 yr old girl. Of course she is naive. Eteri should have told her to go out and congratulate Liza and Kanako. Even if she was a sobbing mess and completely embarrassed.

Unless Yulia is sick or injured, she should have attended. Someone guessed that she perhaps did not think she deserved silver but if that is really true (hard to say if that's true or not), then all the more she should have attended and shook hands with the other medal winners who skated better than her. Perhaps she might not understand that because she is young but in that case, Eteri should have advised her.

If she really does feel she did not deserve it and wants to turn it down, well I guess that is her choice. But to be honest a part of me feels that if that is the case, and she really wants to turn it down she likely should not get/accept any points in the grand prix standings. Even if she wins in France, a part of me thinks she would be a hypocrite to go to the GPF if she truly feels she did not deserve her win here, and want to not accept the medal. To me accepting the points is the same as accepting the medal. If she is going to do things this way, I kinda think she should be consistent at least.

She hasn't said anything yet....people are speculating. The story is she was distraught and went straight to the hotel. Nothing more was reported. Whether of not she was having a breakdown or being dismissive of the medal is not known to be fact.

Sadly Cup of China was probably one of the saddest events. Nothing to do with the organization. Pairs was flat as can be. Dance okay some hope withthe French but really seemed second tier and what a fiasco with the world champs. The men was an eg. of not what to do - try to be a hero andthen get gifted with Hanuated scores. This leaves the ladies while I am happy for Tut Polina really was a disappointment even though she landed seven triples inthe long it was rather mediocre. Julia as I predicted was a complete mess and not showing up on the podium was just wrong but she is young; I can't believe her coach couldn't get her to go out there still. At least she didn't fall five times.

I don't understand the big fuss over the medal ceremony. So much policing of the skaters' attitudes, motivations, character... Isn't it enough to just judge the minutes of their SP and LP?

What is this supposed to mean? I don't remember Plushenko skipping out on ceremonies whenever he has a meltdown. And I highly doubt Yulia upset at anyone but herself at the moment.

PCS favoritism in this competition is REAL. Polina should've gotten 3rd, and Murakani should've been 2nd. Disgusting judging.

Yeah, i saw the didn't know when it was tweet. Who knows. That seems a bit unlikely and irresponsible. I would think there would be ways to get in touch with her. Seems she likely could have gotten there in time for press pics for instance.

We don't know, I was just saying if. Heck we likely may never know the real full story.

Well iti s consistent with Hanyuated scores. And Julia had a pretty big lead over the other girls other than ET. I think I will just try to forget the COC. So sad about Hanyu andHan and well the skating just seemed second rate anyways.

I wasn't coming after you personally just quoting your post to make the point that it is all speculation at this point. I hope you take no offence.....I'm not defensive today....just very sad. That is all.

I don't know what happened to Yulia. But, if a person is in decent condition, I think it's just common courtesy and good sportsmanship to go to the medal ceremony. It shows respect to the other medalists and the audience that supports the skaters. Of course, someone can always do what they want and miss the ceremony. But, many skaters would probably be proud to have the opportunity to be presented with a silver medal in front of a large crowd in an international Grand Prix event and represent their nation, even if they didn't skate their best. I think it is part of the process of competing.

Has the silver medal still not been awarded?

You were fine. And you were right. I was mostly just being philosophical. It has certainly been an odd day.

At least Lipnitskaia had a clean SP and Murakami had an SP error and Edmunds a huge SP error. Hanyu had an awful SP and LP and was placed over Dornbush and Nguyen who each had a relatively much cleaner SP and LP.

Well my musing were specifically about not respecting the competition. If you want to make that statement, well I guess you can, not sure it is a good idea, but you can still do it. I just think you should be prepared to be fully committed to that stance. To be honest I think it is part of her job if nothing else. If it really was that she did not know when it was/got confused, it is on par with a no call/no show at a job.

To be honest I am actually kinda pleased it is not turning into a scandal, but rather a "well that happened I wonder why" type thing.

I think Julia needs to learn how to lose. If I remember correctly she was sour to Mao at some medal ceremony last year when she lost to her and now she doesn't show up?? It doesn't show good sportsmanship from her side. She had a bad day today, but the program is lovely and I look forward to see her perform it again. But, I am not fan of her skipping the ceremony, no matter what the reason (unless she has a bad injury, which required immediate attention).

Agreed. Unless news breaks that she is injured or terribly ill, she has displayed terrible sportsmanship especially given that she was defeated by her teammate Liza and disrespectful to the judges, event organizers and those who cheered her. And the medal ceremony was hours later after men and pairs competed right? Think of all the devastated skaters (and there have been plenty of teenagers) who have composed themselves and managed to be gracious in a matter of a few minutes at the Olympics or Worlds or Nationals in an Olympic year.

I still don't know how that would justify 61 PCS for that disastrous skate. should've been sub 100 points.

Tatjana Flade @Tatjana21 via twitter: J. Lipnitskaia missed awards ceremony b/c she went back to hotel and did not know that awards came at the end.

Why didn't the award ceremony immiediatly follow? I thought that was how these things worked usually. Now I'm confused.
