2014 Cup of China Ladies Free Skate 11/08

Laughing out loud on Zijun's mark from Judge 4. She received 3 x 4s from one judge on transition, choreography, and interpretation (Lori should have a fit!). One thing is for sure, Chinese don't get any MacLovin' at the Cup of China!

Love the 3F3T, 2A3T and the whole moon river / audrey hepburn with black gloves packages. Work on your stamina Zijun and FIGHT! Endurance test under the waterfall, push massive rocks up the mountain, run marathons along the great wall, bribe judges with chocolates, watch Yunatubes for inspiration and improving performance.

I don't mean to be annoying, but could I ask you where you found this picture? I rarely have much luck finding good quality photos like this. Thanks.

LOL, I don't know where sorenkay found it, but the same photo is on International Figure Skating's Facebook page.

(LOL #2: One of my big pet peeves is JPG links to photos instead of "in situ" links. Bypassing the source does not seem right to me.)

If we do an analysis how Yulia ended up in today's situation: relatively new LP--->she was not happy with the original--->why??? My speculation is her LP was a seamless packaging and it did her favor to the maximum level, therefore it is almost impossible to find such a replacement. I don't see her body changed in any significant way so I don't think that is a problem. Here at some moments she looked like she forgot how to skate. Even the basic skating skills were not there at all. Her skating skill in this competition is not better than Serafema or even Evgenia.

I don't understand how suddenly Zijun has stamina problem. She looks thinner than last season, and she is not ill. I am wondering if she spends enough time training.

^^ she has explained that, after her growth spurt, her stamina decreased rapidly, it is way more tiring for her to do what she used to do.
I think she is getting back on track now.

Didn't watch the program, just looked at the protocol, but 44 points for technicals for Yulia? What happened?

What Julia did was in a way similar to what Mao did at the Olympics in the short program. It looked as they forgot what they had to do or did not trust their jumping. Maybe they weren't feeling OK. Mao had a redemption opportunity and she did an amazing program later. Hopefully Julia will also recover. What worries me is that she deliberately avoided the Lutz jump, and chose easier jumps in both SD and LP. I guess she tries to correct her Lz take off, and maybe it's not ready. I am sure that this long program is quite new for her and she hasn't adjusted her skating to the new layout. The SD was very good, so was the start of the LP, but she missed the Salcow and then it looked she was like in a weird trance. I was so sorry for her as she was really upset. I am sure it was not the second place the thing that bothered her, but her skating. I hope she'll get over soon...

Wow, her mess up in the step sequence was even more strange, at 1:37 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncj62LJL5pw). Right in front of the judges too. I hope her PCS weren't still super high after that. Oh wait, they were...

Wait, two falls? Two singled jumps? One 2A-2T? Step sequence tumble? What the heck, and this is still above 100 points? I would have placed her close to last in the LP, she only landed two triples. :rolleye:

Even the commentators were like "The marks will not be pretty at all" and they turned out to be OK.

Anymore? She looked quite capable the night before. She fell flat and got spooked. I wouldn't rush to count someone out after one bad program. She isn't the first to do it and she won't be the last.

Julia Lipnitskaia didn't attend the award ceremony

The reason given by her team is she forgot there was an award ceremony at the end. That's a first! She has been to so many GP competitions and she had been to the exact COC in 2012. How could you forget the award ceremony? And what about her team? They all forgot? I think it's quite disrespectful to other competitors and the host.

Tatjana Flade @Tatjana21

J. Lipnitskaia missed awards ceremony b/c she went back to hotel and did not know that awards came at the end.

There's been some discussion of this in the Ladies FS thread. Not attending is inexcusable- it's impossible to believe that someone who had been multiple GPs medaling often didn't know the procedure for awards or that it wasn't communicated to the medalists. Unless she was undergoing medical treatment, she has shown an unprecedented (well maybe tied with Surya) level of poor sportsmanship and disrespect for the event organizers. Is she declining the prize money and the points that will get her to the final as well? Of course not.

I see some defense of that she's a teenager who was under a lot of pressure to win. Please. She is not huge first teenager devastated by a loss. Imagine if Kwan refused to attend the medal ceremony with Lipinski in Nagano?
