2014 Cup of China Ladies Free Skate 11/08

It doesn't justify her crazy high FS score. But it does marginally justify the overall silver medal since she built up a cushion over Murakami and the rest, which I doubt many would argue with. Had she bombed both her SP and LP and still got silver, like Hanyu, that would have been an even worse judging. I mean it happened with Brown over Nguyen at SA.

It's funny how so many people disregard the SP after a competition. Julia skated a fantastic SP and this even with an awful FS a medal is justifiable-ish (it's not like any other lady other than Tukt had two clean segments... Daleman and Murakami were the closest to that. However by the same token, Hanyu bombed his SP and his LP whereas Nam was solid in both segments and Dornbush was too.

At least neither Hanyu or Lip won their events otherwise this bad scoring would be even more grievous.

But it's "marginally" justifiable because she was over scored in PCS. There is no way that kind of performance deserves 61 PCS. It is a disgusting judging because if it were to be say for example, Haejin skating in such disaster program, there is no way she'll receive 61 in PCS. Reputation judging is what got her the silver medal.

That is the lamest excuse, ever! I almost think it is true because it is so absurd. But Julia surely knew there would be a medal ceremony. I think she was unhappy with her performance because she couldn't have been unhappy with a silver medal after her poor free skate.

Shame that Polina couldn't get a medal, she deserved one.
Juia - there's something in this girl that just enters my heart, you just have to love her, for some reason. her SP is great, but her LP is a hot mess right now. Didn't she use a very similar cut 2 or 3 years ago? I think she needs another music.

She was second in her free skate, but her short one was really bad.

Pointless thread is pointless... this has already been discussed to death in the Free Skate thread...

She was second in her free skate, but her short one was really bad.

Her (Polina's) scores were similar to Mirai's at Skate America. Her free skate only scored 110. That is not going to get her fourth place at many other competitions.

Are you guys kidding me with this? Absolutely she needs to give an explanation. This a PR nightmare!

I hope her PR person is cooking up a story as we speak. They should say something like she was too ill and couldn't go. A good sob story always works.

Lol. She's not that type of an athlete that has a PR person or publicist to tell her what to speak and to come up with fake lame excuses. It's been less than 24 hours since the ceremony, let's just wait and see.

Anyway, Yulia need to pull it together and make a statement. It's a must for an athlete to attend a medal ceremony. But having said that I also find it possible that she simply physically could not do that. She's young, so is her body and mind. Stress could have caused more trauma that we know about.

It makes no difference to me personally, but between this & her famous scowl I sense she is going to be labeled "a diva" already at 16, and it will be very hard (if not impossible) for her to shake that reputation going forward. I have no idea what was going on with her, but unless she was physically incapacitated, one wonders why Eteri didn't drag her there. Isn't she supposed to be a harda$$? ;) It's just odd...but everything about CoC was odd, and not in a good way.

I was really surprised at Yulia's performance last night :( I think she'll recover from this though. I cant believe some people are quick to say her career is over?? Its just one bad skate. She looked upset, and with good reason, but she'll recover. She seemed to do well in her first 3 jumps so I think her fall rattled her. I hope she does well in France.

I love Yulia but i think her team should be penalised.

Imagine if more people start doing stuff like this and provide lame excuses,
This needs to be cut down pronto.

Lovely username!

Yulia is strong. Her only enemy is herself and the pressure she puts on herself.

She almost missed the awards ceremony 2 years ago after going to the hotel first...

Exactly, I'm sympathetic towards her but you can't let stuff like this go or others will do it too... I was just reading the Grand Prix rulebook a few days ago and they list award deductions for missing the gala if called to perform and IIRC there is suppose to be a meeting of ISU officials who put on the event to set an award deduction for missing other required events like the awards ceremony.

haha yess! Thank you! :)

Yeah I agree. Yulia's putting too much pressure on herself. My only hope is that she learns from this, and improve by the comp.

I agree with Tarasova who said that the coach is also at fault here.

I agree with everyone- if she isn't injured like Yuzuru, it was a bad move not to go.

BUT as soon as I read the name Tatiana Tarasova :disapp:
It's a big misery to me why this women still feels like she has to give her opinion about things that she doesn't know about.
That's the same 'expert' who actually, just like that called a young women's costume "Ugly" and that "she shouldn't even have received the medal she got" in Sochi.
And no matter about which skater she said that, even if it had been the 18th place finisher This is bad sportsmanship and a showing of miserable character traits.
So this dear old lady should be quiet when it comes to discussing inappropriate behavior of others.

That being said, I really hope Yulia or Ereri will make a statement themselves to clarify this whole situation

That was two years ago and her first GP. So it was understandable. But now she is a seasoned skater. You can't possibly use that excuse.

While Yulia comes across as a complete brat, I can't help but be excited that we have her in the skating world. We haven't had a good villain since Harding, and she looks more than ready to fill those shoes.

I predict we'll see a catfight within the next comp or two.

Well..if CoC mentioned skaters are expected to be ready at the ceremony, Yulia also violated the code-of-ethics.

e) I will adhere to all announced rules of the ISU and the host organization that are: (1)
published in the required announcement of the competition and (2) not inconsistent with ISU
Regulations, at all ISU hosted, sponsored or supported competitions, events and activities.

p) I understand that if a violation of this Code on my part is determined also to be
“misconduct”, the ISU may suspend me for a definite period or forever exclude me from all ISU
events and activities8
. I understand that all disciplinary proceedings respecting “misconduct” will
be conducted as provided in the ISU Statutes

Are there any conditions under which an athlete can refuse to accept the medal?
