Mirai Nagasu's future prospects

i am watching Mirai's LP video, I just like watching her. I watched Radionova's video right before watching Mirai's . Her body language just more please to my eyes. and I think she is very expressive through her body language. I just dont understand the dead-face argument.
and Mirai's dress decoration resembles beautiful butterfly wings. I wish you fly high this season Madam Butterfly. <3 <3

I don't understand either. I really enjoyed her Madame Butterfly performance.

She's gotta keep working in the way she has, and let this situation marinate a little longer. She's a made a ton of changes which can be jarring, but if the training is there and word of mouth is it definitely is, I believe the performances will come too.

She had a couple of nice performances in the LP last year (Rostelecom, Nationals). Do you see any improvement over those with her training under Tom? If so, what in particular has improved? I'm not seeing it but am curious to hear other fans' opinions.

I am getting mixed feelings about her "emotional" or heartfelt Madame Butterfly. First, when she starts she is either intensely focussing but she does not acknolwedge the audience or smile - sure her 2010 Oly free skate to Carmen had random inappropriate Miss America smiling but she seemed alive now I am not so sure. Second, we need to start seeing the fruit of her so called work on UR's/jumps. I do admit she looks good to the untrained eye other than she is a bit expressionless during her skate. I am worried that the skating community might lose faith in her.

I think the skating community at large HAS lost faith in her. Her tearful exhibition at Nationals this year, the drama around the Olympic team, etc. revived some of that faith but she's going to have to live up to it quickly if it's to sustain. There are some diehards that are still wishing for that miracle.

I'd argue that this is what constitutes a "fan".

Overall, I don't think the performances have been as good as what she did last year at Rostelecom and Nationals, never mind improvement. However, I would argue that she's is demonstrating more attack going into her jumps than she had at any point last season. Last year she seemed to slow down in an effort to keep her timing. This is a habit several people have noted over the last two seasons with her. It looks like she's working on maintaining that attack while keeping her timing.

Case in point: that didn't pan out for her at all in the short, but it worked much better in the long, and I still think her lutz and second flip were around in the long program.

I also much prefer these step sequences to what she had last year, especially in the short. She had more speed and interest in the footwork what we saw last season.

As I said in my earlier post, I don't think she's fully marinated. But I do think she's lining things up for herself in a nice way and with more time I think she IS capable of improving upon what she did last year at Nationals and hopefully Tom and the rest of her team will be able to help her get there.

Here's hoping that Mirai has good skates at Rostelecom this weekend. Pogo will win this unless she has a meltdown, but if Mirai hits her jumps, minimizes the URs and sells it, she could definitely be on the podium. She has no chance making the GPF anyway, so she might as well go for it!

I would love Mirai to have a really, really good skate! Not just like Nationals where she just didn't make mistakes but one where she puts it all together and has the grace, style and jumps! I know it's in her. HER GPF chances are done but she should be building for Nationals and Worlds. C'mon Mirai!!!

I wish there were more competitions :/
Skating seasons go by so fast. I mean these programs deserve to be seen more than just a 2-3 times. lol

GO MIRAI! I really hope she's able to finish up her grand prix season strong and build momentum going into nationals! It seems like she's still training hard at Broadmoore based on social media and it would be great to see that start to come through here. I also think she definitely has a shot at the podium here.

Mirai will have to rotate her jumps if she wants to make the podium. The caller is the Finnish/Russian Olga Baranova from the Olympics who ignored Sotnikova's flutz but dinged everyone else's lips and flutzes. There is no doubt she will be scrutinizing all the non-Russian skaters for any faults.....

She's on the Men's panel, too, so Jason Brown better beware as well.

She has had a few good skates, 2011 4CC bronze, close behind Miki and Mao, and many observers say she skated just as well as Miki and Mao, 2014 Nationals of course.

I agree she has areas she hasn't been able to fix, UR's, among others. But people on here are complaining about the same flaws Gold and Wagner have today as they had two years ago. They havent fixed many of their flaws either, but you never seem to post about it. You say you want Mirai to do well. If she did, your number of posts would drop significantly.

I never saw the 4CC skate before. Really lovely. And lovely too was the costume. Not your usual spangles and mirabu number.

This is Mirai's chance to shine at the Cup of Russia It is a weak field - she could even win gold if Anna skates badly Of course she has to stop URing. I hope we can see the joy in her skating even if it is a bit misplaced ala Carmen in 2010 but she seemed so happy at least. A great scare might put her in the mix for a spot on the world team.

The field at Cup of Russia is very weak and even if she does medal it really doesn't prove much unless she can do it again and again at her other competitions. Every year she has one competition where it looks like she's back on track and then it doesn't happen.

Mirai always does better at her second GP event then her first so I expect better then at Skate America.

Difference is Gracie's flaws for instance are more mental then anything else. She rotates her jumps and doesn't have to relearn her jumps to fix them like Mirai does. Even clean Mirai's scoring ceiling is much lower then Gracie's at the moment if they both skate clean.
