Jason Brown

the point is other guys at 4CC will land quads and good 3A as well.

I need you to play the lottery for me. How many times have we seen D10 blow both the quad and the other jumps? Mura? Murakami? I have not been following them forever, but even just in the past year. But I understand that it is likely that at least one of these skaters will land a quad, and Jason (or at least Kori) wants to stay in the mix.

Except for Shoma, all the guys are inconsistent and I am not even sure about Shoma's consistency since you know, he jumps small, less power to his skate. And I am not trying to jinx anyone but all the promising young skaters are often very consistent until they are pressed against true pressure. It happened to Nam, to Yulia... so I am not very gaga over the consistency of the men field.
But if you are being realistic, you might notice that even in some bad competition there are still some guys who can land quads and 3A.

Yes, I understand what you meant, I am only teasing, I hope you don't mind. Such :drama: as to which man will land the jumps. But since I cannot stay up until 3:30 a.m. my time to watch, I will dream that Jason will land his jumps:biggrin:

I watched the clip and saw the two-footed quad but I thought he looked good. I guess I was expecting him to fall but he didn't. Again, I know nothing about figure skating, which is why I saw something good and the media implied it wasn't. I mean, he two-footed a 3A in Nationals but still came out on top.

If the two-foot was the only issue I might agree with you. But it wasn't. It was the rotation. It wasn't even CLOSE to full rotation, and worse, it seemed to throw off the 3A!

It's seriously not the end of the world. If Jason can move on from it, we ought to not bemoan it so much.

I think the attempt served some purpose. :)

Watching the fluff pieces this nationals, I was wondering who was the one who were featured as contenders last nationals (before Jason stole the heart of the nation of course).

I just woke up and the first thing I did was to look his program up on Youtube. Boy was his skating sublime! I'm so proud of my boy Jason (now I know how guys feel about their football team winning).

I watched his free, and... I just adore that program - adore it! That's all.:)

The best of the season for sure and it wasn't even completely perfect yet! He missed a level on a spin, of all things. :) Oh well. Here's hope the best is to come at Worlds. :)

But two ratified 3As with +GOE. :yay:

Jason's comments after the men’s free skate …

(on today/Four Continents) I’m really excited. It was nice to start fresh and perform the way I know I can. I had such a great experience here. Flying to Korea and competing in Asia. It’s cool that the world championships are also in Asia. To get this practice right before is great. I’m looking forward to taking this experience and learning from it.

(on quad toe going forward) It’s something my coach and I are going to go over after we leave Seoul. We’ll weigh the options. I have five weeks and time to continue to practice and integrate it into the program. It’s up the air and we’ll see once I get back home.

(on worlds) A big goal of mine this year was to make the world championships. It’s something I’ve never done, I’ve never been to the world championships. To be able to start off the four-year cycle at the world championships will help me gain as much experience as I can leading up to the next Games. It’s something that is so crucial and I’m excited to start that journey in Shanghai.

And as I posted in the U.S. men thread, Hersh did express support for Jason's quad attempt:

... Highland Park’s Brown, sixth in the free skate and final standings (nearly 17 points behind Farris), finally had tried the first quad of his competitive career in the short program. That he made a hash of it was less important than the willingness to risk it, as the results of the free skate showed.

I'm so proud of Jason's wonderful long program. That's how you do it, my lad (apart from the weird lutz error!). And TWO clean 3As (the second looked iffy in real time but better in slo mo).

:yay:

:) Yes! But non forget the hero of the day: JOsh!

I am sure they are both very happy for each other!

Actually that was something I wanted: when they were waiting for Josh's scores they had a shot of Han's face, but I wanted them to pan out just a little so we could see Jason too - I bet he was so excited to hear Josh's scores!

Jason has updated his icenetwork blog:

Seoul Man

It was such an exciting men's event! We all pulled up in the standings from our short programs, and Josh [Farris] brought home a silver medal for Team USA...I'm so proud of him! I finished sixth and Adam [Rippon] took 10th. The competition was full of great growing experiences for us all, and we can't wait to get back home to start preparing for worlds. The future is looking super bright for the U.S. men, and I feel so lucky to be a part of it.

From our 1st competition all together in 2011 to now!! Love these guys...They killed it yesterday! #4CCSeoul

Jason, Josh and Han

I'm so proud of both of them. Their skating is sublime and they are thoroughly nice and decent men. I look forward to watching them both at worlds.

I love that photo of Han, Josh and Jason from 2011 and from now. Adorbs!

and posters (not here) who try to put down Jason by elevating Josh:mad: I am also sure that they were happy for each other, and now Han seems in on the action. Good for them:cheer2:

ETA after last post: I agree Han did not look so happy in 2011. ;)

To be fair, Han had a bad sickness before the FS at that competition. I think he had food poisoning or something. Han's a bit prone to sickness in the past it seems...hope it's behind him now!

The skaters seem, in general, seem to get along and respect each other. I wish some of their fans would do the same.

Oh for sure, I think it was just a picture taken at an oops moment!

I was happy for Han Yan that he skated so well after that awful crash at COC.

Re Jason: I simply don't understand why people feel the need to put him down because they've suddenly discovered Josh. Josh is really talented and it's great to see him skating so well and having a moment. But all of a sudden Jason seems to have morphed in many peoples' eyes into someone with second-rate talent who is "overrated" and "overhyped" and will never get a clean 3A, much less a quad. Even Phil Hersh, for whom Jason could once do no wrong, has been extremely harsh towards him lately, although thankfully, he toned down the rhetoric a bit in this last article.

I don't get this USFSA anointed one business. I like a good rivalry and I think both skaters bring something to the table.

And I guess people missed the fact that he was a handful of points from the 170 range and actually would have gotten there hip ad it not been the weird lutz/spin error.

Alas, people think what they want to think.
