Joshua Farris

Thanks to Doris for her many additions to the OP :).

While we are updating him, we may wan to add really little Josh from back when he was an audience plant for a Michelle Kwan interview on. . . some daytime talk show.

It was from when he was the 2006 Juvenile National Champion, so when he was 11 I think. Anyway very cute.

Thx, Stitch :). The show was "Northwest Afternoon" on KOMO, which is ABC's local affiliate in Josh's hometown of Seattle.

Enjoyed hearing/seeing mini-Josh so well-spoken and "dressed for success," tie and all. And enjoyed the clip of his skating.
Mind-boggling that even at his young age, his parents already were spending up to $40,000/year on his skating. (First time I have seen his mother.)

His website funding page, which doesn't seem to have been updated for some years - probably the last time when he was sixteen or seventeen - says it's up to $75,000 a year, but I'd wager it's even more than that now. Fortunately, Joshua is now in the position to earn part of his next season's costs each season.

Not disagreeing with you at all that the numbers (both then and now) are huge. But the enormity of Josh's costs as a junior and senior are not surprising to me -- b/c of previous information about costs of other skaters at/near the top of the sport. What was new to me is that the expenses for juveniles are not far behind.

An attempt to explain my comment re the 2006 video:

Josh's parents needed to be willing to spend $40,000/year to live in the moment (so to speak) of his juvenile results.
Josh showed a ton of promise for a very bright future, but they had no absolute guarantee as to what heights his career eventually could reach; no guarantee that he would be able to overcome any injuries; no guarantee that he eventually would earn money :) from SOI and other shows; etc.

The 2006 U.S. juvenile boys placing right below Josh were Andrew Nagode, Ryan Hartley, and David Wang, whose costs prob. were the same order of magnitude as Josh's??
With all sincerity, I dearly hope that Andrew, Ryan, David, and their families are proud of and gratified by everything that they accomplished/experienced that year and over the entire course of their skating careers.
If so, their money was well spent .

Just sayin' that it is a lot of money.

(BTW, in case we ever care for another reason, I looked up the dates for Josh's FSO website:

Wow, I liked that. I've never seen it before!

And while we're talking about little-known exes, here's a rare fancam of his To Build A Home from SOI last year.

He's so adorable and well-spoken! And he looks just like a mini-version of his older self! If only Michelle still did shows... then we could really see them skating together.

(The photo was posted on Joe Johnson's Instagram on Jun 5, so prob. is current - as opposed to an oldie posted on tumblr as a throwback.

He looks hungry, lol. Assuming there's no cheese on his Bingo burger. And mmmm, sweet potato fries....

Re: his LP - yes would like some news. I think he was going to head to Toronto to work with Jeff sometime this summer? Hope it's soon.

Here's the obligatory GP post, lol.

I hope Josh can be healthy and skate well at both Skate Canada and NHK Trophy (where he will face off against Jason for the umpteenth time!). He can only go but up from the disaster of last year's NHK!

I'm so pleased that Josh gets a shot at NHK redemption. Hope he does well there!

It's going to be a heck of a fight for the bronze medal at Skate Canada, but I think he can do it. Skate Canada has been good to him in the past.

And now, since he still hasn't announced the music for his FS, what music would you like to see Josh performing? He has been doing rather depressing and slower themes recently, so would something upbeat fit? Or maybe he could try tango (even though he did two seasons ago)?
